Question 6700 Question...

When browsing the internet, can you receive phone calls? or will it go straight to voicemail? Are there any phones where the call will come through? Thanks

if data is transferring, no
if data connection is idle but web brower is active, yes
no sprint phone allows calls while data session is active, think like using dial up on your home phone...blocks calls coming in

correct, basically, if your little vision arrows are moving, and data is being transfered, the call will go to voicemail. but if you're just reading a web page a call can come in.

The two posts above are completely incorrect. All EV-DO phones (which the 6700 is) will receive calls even if they have an active data connection. That is, if they are using EV-DO. If they are on a 1x connection, and if the data connection is active, the call will be sent to voicemail. With EV-DO, even while you have an active data connection, the phone still constantly listens for calls. If you receive a call, the data connection will be broken, and the call will ring through. So you could be streaming music (on an EV-DO link) the exact second someone calls, and you will still receive the call.

You must not be using an EV-DO network then. Just because your phone is EV-DO capable doesn't mean it has an available EV-DO signal to grab. If you are out of EV-DO coverage and only receiving 1xRTT data coverage, then you will have the same issues of calls being blocked by an active data connection.

I have to back-up JRider here...

If your using ev-do, even if your using "data" you should be able to receive phone calls. The data will stay on ev and voice will go to 1x.

If you have no ev-do, then you won't be able to receive a call and use data at the same time.

I have the 6700 and have done this myself and I'm sure others can vouch.

I can vouch. Absolutely true. I have the 6700 and have tested this several times. I definately get the call when I am receiving data (even streaming). I have also had the Treo 700w, same thing. EV-DO rules!

the call comes through, but if you accept it kills the web connection.

So is it just the 6700 that can recieve calls during a data session? While sitting here in a power vision area (dat means I got da littel triangles right ) my mm-9000 will not recieve a call while streaming NFL network live. So how I'm completely wrong is beyond me, unless it's only the 6700.

I'm not familiar with the 9000, but I know my 6700 actually shows "EV" while I'm in EV-DO coverage. Maybe check your manual and find out what those icons mean. But I'm sure that this is an EV-DO thing, and not a phone thing.

Def. works on the 6700. I would also assume it is network dependent and not phone dependent. If data is transferring on the ev-do network the call will come through and interrupt your session. It will then switch to 1x for call session. If it doesnt work on other phones besides the 6700 then that sure sucks.....But make sure you are in an ev-do area. It will not work if you are using 1x.

Works on my 6700 and 6600 when I'm in an EvDO area.

i was being sarcastic...i found it absurd to be absolutely wrong on this subject. i'm most definitely in a ev-do covered area and the symbols for ev-do on the 9000 and other evdo phones is the little triangles (opposed to the vision arrows) it's gotta be a feature of the ppc-6700 because the other power vision "phone" owner who chimed in said that he could not get calls either. no biggie to me, not getting calls while on data sessions is what i'm used to after all those years of vision

I knew you were being sarcastic, but... like I said, I don't get "little triangles", I get "EV" when I'm in EV-DO areas. So I just wanted to be sure. Again, this is not handset dependent, do a search on Google and you will find that this is how EV-DO works. So I don't know why your 9000 wouldn't work correctly. I've tested this with a friend's 920, and it also let the call come through.
