7400 or 8300: NOT a poll, just Time sensitive
I'm eligible for a $75 rebate now, and I will be picking up the new plans.
What's better to save money? 1) Buying a 7400 between $160-180. Or buying a 8300 around $200? (Either, and is the 8300 worth the extra $10 at the same time?) or simply 2) Just buy a completely new phone from a Sprint retailer and use that rebate with the new plan? Please let me know ASAP. I preferably would like to know within the next few hours before I put these sellers on hold for too long. Thanks for the help in advance. Last edited by adrush; 09-12-2005 at 08:01 PM. |

First, I don't believe you are eligible for a rebate if you currently have a plan and want to buy a new phone outright and expect to receive the rebate after purchase. That would be for "new subscribers only". If this was the case, you would have to cancel your contract first, pay the termination fee, then re-enroll in one of the new plans. Only then will you get the instant rebate (or mail-in rebate for that matter), and your bill must be paid in full first.
Now onto the MM-7400 vs. MM-8300 thing... MM-7400 (the MM-8300 DOES NOT): - Has rubberized grip - Has bigger internal display screen - Allows #777 web access MM-8300 (the MM-7400 DOES NOT): - Supports stereo multimedia signals (7400 only mono) Overall, I believe the 7400 to a be a superior phone for looks and overall features. Also, it would appear to be a more durable phone (with rubberized grip). The only thing the 8300 has over it is the ability to play stereo signals from multimedia sources (for example, Sirius Satellite Radio). The rest of the 8300 has basically feature for feature everything the 7400 has, and at a lower price. All future Sanyo phones (8300 included) will not support #777 (web access via computer). |

Well, I thought current customers of 12-23 consecutive months had the possibility to be eligible for a $75 rebate on "select phones." For 24+, it was $150.
I'm taking it you either didn't know about that, or it's no longer in effect. But I got it in a pamplet at the beginning of the month, regarding the new merge. |

Sounds good, I'm eligible for that one, too. In fact, I have to ask you, how much did it run if you don't mind me asking, and where did you get it?
I just came from Best Buy and realized retail on their 7400 was $419. I decided against the 8300 just because.. but it's like 20 bucks cheaper after the rebates for new users. So, I'm either going to get it somewhere else to see if I can get it under $200 after that rebate. |

At Sprint stores in Michigan the 8300 is $299 before rebate! So your talking $224.

i hated my 8300!!! absolutely hated it but i love the 7400!!! it offers similar features with a bigger screen and please dont let phone scoop fool you the 7400 does have a bigger screen and does allow you to do a phone sync with a data cable.

Yeah, the 8300 is only tempting to me due to a slightly lower price. But I finally matched them up today. I'm definately still loving the 7400.
But can you answer this question for me as a 7400 user? When you have the phone on speakerphone, can you close it, and continue your conversation? Or is that at least possible to do? |

Yes you can. Simply hit 'speaker' and close the flip. You're still in the call, and when you want to end the conversation, hold down the top right button for a few seconds (on the outside clamshell of the phone).
