AIM Through SMS
I have been waiting for Sprint and AOL and/or Yahoo to set up their IM services through SMS. Where I work has a really weak signal and I can't always logon to Vision, but text messages usually come through okay. My wife won't use vision but will use text messaging, so having AIM or Yahoo through SMS would be a big benefit to me.
I was trying the login for AIM and usually don't get a response back. This time I did. I thought that since maybe I was roaming on Verizon, it was an error. But when I got to my wife's work, I was playing around with it and it seemed to be working. I can send and respond. If the messages are long, they will get broken up it 2 or 3 or how ever many is needed. On AIM it shows that my screenname has two-way messaging. I tried to set up the AIM forwarding, but that would not let me respond to the messages. It was still the one-way text messaging (as of last night.) I logged in by sending a text message to: 265000. It seems to use the 265-xxx short codes. You can follow their guide on their website. There are a lot of short codes, but anyone who IM's you, their code will be given to you so no worries there. I'm glad that Sprint and AIM added this as a choice for me to use. |

Nice to see AIM finally introducing something like this using a SMS system. It seems to work really well for me but even though it's more feature rich I think IMForwards still is easier to use as I don't have to remember a bunch of codes. Plus it doesn't look like AIM will automatically sign you on to this when you sign off the main program or when sign you off forwarding when you sign on to the main application again.

Dang, I wish Yahoo would get rolling with this, too.........I've been wanting them to support YM over SMS (for Sprint).

I admit that there are a whole lot of codes and it doesn't sign on automatically but I still like it because you can actually check your buddy list and it separates a long message to short ones. Another plus is it doesn't have an advertising reply.
