So why is it that GameCube and Xbox aren't included in this? They're controllers do the same thing. And what about all the computer gaming controllers?

This might actually be good for Sony. Maybe the PS2's sales will get a boost.
Somebody posted this at Engadget: "Now it should be noted that when MS aggreeed to pay the 23 Million, they bought a 10% stake in Immersion. Think maybe Microsoft is fighting to keep Sony from using the patent which they own a part of?" I'm thinking maybe Immersion has gone around, doing this to all the "vibrating remote control" companies and Sony was the last hold-out? |

Possibly...but if it's MS doing what Corey said...then I'd like to kick them in the nuts.

Yeah, this has been going on for quite some time. Immersion was just so small that the public must've been ignoring it:
Touch and Go David Armstrong, 02.28.05 Forbes.com Suing Sony and Microsoft and staking your company's existence on the outcome--this is not a preferred technology strategy. It was in the late Fall of 2001 when Victor Viegas finally got fed up. In the past year Sony Computer Entertainment of America had shipped 10 million of its PlayStation 2 game consoles in the U.S., and Microsoft was on the cusp of releasing its rival Xbox game machine. Viegas, chief executive of tiny Immersion Corp. in San Jose, Calif., knew that his vibration technology was inside those game systems, making their controllers rattle and jump in the hands of kids fragging blood-soaked hell beasts. And Viegas wasn't getting paid for it. So in February 2002 he sued them for patent in-fringement, taking on two of technology's biggest players in a bold legal campaign that would drag on for two and a half years. Viegas risked derailing an already sputtering growth story and being cast as a noisome nobody trying to extract a toll from richer firms. A loss at trial would make Immersion's claim to intellectual property more or less worthless. But Viegas got Microsoft to settle and in September beat Sony in court, winning $82 million for lost royalties. Sony promises to appeal. Though Immersion's future is still murky, it shows that an underdog can, from time to time, take a shot at the giants and land a decent blow. "I joined the company because this technology has potential. But this is not a skirmish I'm going to shy away from. If we did, no company would ever take us seriously," he says..... continued @ Forbes.com |

And I was wondering why that "Dual Shock" crap wasn't put in the PSP....
Looks like Sony should've went with Microsoft's idea. I bet Bill Gates is laughing his geeky ass off right now. |
