Exclamation Does not support it!

Unfortunantly the version of bluetooth that is installed into the 650 handset is 1.1 and this does not support data transfer of music through bluetooth. You would need version 1.2 to do this. Quote from palmone data sheet; A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution: playing music wirelessly. This is Bluetooth 1.2, and the Treo 650 smartphone is Bluetooth 1.1)

Time for a Petition to Palm One

Sounds as though we should start a petition to have our phones (650's)upgraded to Bluetooth 1.2. Maybe we should start a petition. Yes I love the new phone and I loved the Treo 600 but Palm always has short changed us on screens and memory. The T-5 they did adequate memory and screen. I like Palm and I don't want to switch.

A2DP is only for stereo music, you could use the headset profile to listen to music wirelessly, but the sound quality would be horrible; which is probably why palm prevented that feature.

There may be a software solution to enable music to be played over bluetooth using the integrated headset profile. But with the poor audio quality, it's not going to be something that peaple will like.

How does Hp do it with their Ipaqs? They are going to be releasing a BT headphone soon (daves Ipaq did a short review with a preproduction model; but locked into Ipaqs only.

My interest is on audios file, the spoken word, mp3 books? Thanks for your comments!

Bluetooth 1.2 has NOTHING to do with playing sound to your headset. How do you think you hear the other party's voice.... Its just all about how the manufacturer implements it into the phone.

Well that's not 100% true, the bluetooth profile that is used in the 650 and most phones is the "headset" profile. This profile heavily compresses the audio stream, listening to music with it would be like listening to a friends radio over the phone. This is why I believe that PalmOne prevented the bluetooth headset from being used to listen to music. They would recieve a lot of complaints about the poor audio quality.
