Bluetooth Headsets

Gonna get the ppc6600 when it comes out.
my question...

Is it not possible to hook up a bluetooth headset to a pda phone and without touching said pda phone, to simply push a button on the headset and say "dial 407 555 1212" and the phone dials. What am I missing because it seems like all you can do is answer a call with the headset, but not place a call out with the headset.

I know the ppc6600 does not have voice command per se so I would imagine I would have to buy software or is there software that comes with the headset or is this just too complex a subject for the engineers fragile little minds to conceive that hands free means hands free? Any suggestions would help. Thanks.

it all has to do with the phone...not the headset.

I would imagine most phones with bluetooth would allow you to do this. The t608 will.

like i said, it depends on the phone and not the headset. if the phone has onetouch voice dialing, the headset *should* allow it if it has a turbo button kind of setup.

OK, so if there are no drivers that headsets can include to allow them to voice dial in say wm2003 then is there any software out there that you put on the phone to esstentialy cause the phone to "listen" for the bluetooth headset and its voice dial command (seems to me that would be from the headset vendor)? Even if voice dialing is not an active part of the headset I could still put voice command from M$ onto a phone and could voice dial (except I would have to push a button). I am trying to eliminate the "pushing the button" on the phone thing so that the phone could be in the other room and I just "push the button" on the headset.

maybe i'm in over my head on this, but i don't think its a driver thing.

basically, the BT headset needs to be paired up with the phone. once paired, it acts like a normal headset. if the phone has voice dial , you use the turbo-button on the BT headset to initiate the call.

on the flipside, if you have a turbo-button headset on a phone with no voice dial, the button is useless. that's where i think you are. It doesn't sound like your phone has voicedial built it. the headset manufactureer would have nothing to offer in that case.

First you don't even know if there is a problem yet (I know I try to analyze problems before they erupt also). Have you checked with anyone that has the device yet?

Edited to add: mcurtiss1970 I think you're right on point with this. I have to note again that he doesn't even have the phone yet!

ok - so there is no software manufactured that can simulate allowing the turbo dial is what you are saying? If I don't have voice dial on the phone, I can't put any software on it to make a bluetooth headset voicedial - well now that just sux. So there is no way to voice dial on PPC6600 without having to hit a button on the phone itself. Sigh

I know the ppc6601 does not have voice capabilities so I seriously doubt they are going to add it for the PPC6600

i'm not saying anything either way. i'm just saying that it's not the headset. thus, no headset manufacturer will be able to help you. it must be the phone people who can help you.

It would just seem to me that like anything else that you purchase, the person putting the item out would have to instantiate the driver for the item. As in if I buy a hard drive, they supply the driver - if I buy an mp3 player, they supply the driver, if I buy a bluetooth headset no one supplies the driver???

Ok again to post this...
- I am looking to take my pda phone (PPC6600) which does not support voice dialing.
- I am looking to purchase a BT800 which does support voice dialing.
- I am looking to make it possible to make a call from the headset without having to touch a button on the actual pda phone a la M$ voice command.

With M$ voice command (and other software) you can voice dial but you have to touch a button on the phone to get it to listen. Me no want to touchy phone!!! Is there a way, somewhere out there in which this can be done? I can't believe no one has designed bluetooth headsets to operate this way as a standard feature - I should be able to hit the button on a headset and say dial 555 1212 and the headset connects to the phone and dials out. Are we living in the stone age peoples??? The Jabra BT800 and Jabra BT110 support voice dialing but it is phone dependent. I don't believe they don't design their headsets to work on any phone with just the addition of some software. Damn them... damn them all
