HI guys,
I have a Samsung a500 and I played around with the Test Mode Command, specifically command #053 (stby mode). It's my first time doing it and when I enter the Test Mode screen,I pressed 053.It then displayed " stby battery 212"...here's the thing: I didnt know how to exit..so I tried the first logical(or illogical) thing, which is to try each button. When I pressed the OK button, the screen says "saved setting"(I think this is where I screwed up). When I still couldnt exit the test mode screen,I took out the battery. Now...when I turn it on again...the phone somehow reads low batt.It display the wallpaper and I can still access the menu, but somehow it just read low batt at all times.( I tried it also with my 2 other new charged battery...but it display the same thing, so I'm sure it wasnt the battery). The funny thing is when I called somebody...the battery will display full 3 bars.as soon as I finished the phone call and go to standby, the battery status will be empty again(and display Low Batt recharge sonn). Plus the phone was on for a full 2 days with the Low Batt warning. I think I must have reset the setting at how the phone reads the battery life in standby mode or something...but then again..like I said I'm really new at all this stuff...so im not sure.... Anyone who experienced this before pls help me get out of this situation. Help is greatly appreciated. Thanx |

Well you are lucky that it just displays low battery. I know from previous reading their is also a setting that you change for the battery which will not let the phone power on again.

If I have it reflashed, I will lose all the d/l and phonebooks right?
I have invested around $50+ just for the d/l...so I only want it reflashed as a last resort...plus Sprint doesnt really like to deal with phones without any warranty(bought the phone off e-bay). Anyway i'm still kinda hoping someone could help me out....but thanks guys for your input. |

If it's truly stuck in 'test mode' there is a good chance, unless you can un-do what you did, the phone may say that all the time, even if the store reflashes / wipes it out.
(Not 100%, but there is a good chance of it).

Yeah, testmode is a pain in the ass to get rid of. I flashed an a600 stuck in testmode and it still was stuck in test mode after the reflash. Think of test mode as a computer bios and when the phone boots that is windows. When the stores reflash they are reflashing windows and not the bios. So, even with a reflash the phone may still have the test mode options in the phone. Many sprint stores will not know test mode codes and be able to undo what you have done to your phone. You may want to contact samsungs cell phone side and see what the proper parameter is for you phone that you have altered. They might not be able to help but it does not hurt to ask.

This is why some people should leave the "hidden" options alone on their phone.
