Sanyo 8200 MIDI voices

Anyone know which MIDI voices respond better on the 8200?
I know the piano and certain drum sounds are good ( for the MIDI chip it has). But horns, saxophone and synth sounds don't seem to respond.
Also, any idea on the max polyphony?
I know I am dealing with GM MIDI and there is limitations on GM, but there is no info on the MIDI capabilities of 8200 and the 8100 shown in the manual.

I may have to experiment..but that means composing ringers on each of the 127 MIDI voices and drumset to find out which voices in the chipset respond better.

Any ideas?

Are you really set on using MIDI files? Wouldn't you rather have a better ringer made from a CD, .wav, or MP3? The 8200 does .qcp files and IMHO they sound better than midi ringers.

QCP files are ok.
But I am a MIDI composer and know all the good, bad, tricks and ways to create a great MIDI composition and ringer.
I used a 20 second version of one comp I made on a Sanyo 8100 and I was impressed with the way it sounded.
Granted; there are many many crappy MIDI files out there. But 1 in 20 MIDI files is a good one. Takes time to locate a good one.

Plus the fact is that MIDI files are much more smaller in size. No sound sacrificing.

My problem is exploiting the full capabilities of the chipset in the Sanyo 8200.
Seems like the chipset does not reproduce all sounds like a synth per se (or cheap Casio piano ) and granted, it is not a Yamaha or Roland quality type sound.

One of the ringers I made is a 15 second version of "Green Dolphin Street" and I was impressed with the results. All I need to do to make it at least 90% is to find the right voice to complete it.

Like I said, there is a lot of cheaply composed MIDI all over the web. A good file will make a better ringer than a 6 or 8 Khz qcp file.

I will post my results as I get them. But looks like I will have to experiment with the voices. That is 127 voices + drums and effects!!

MIDI rigers are MUCH cleaner and have the potential to be louder than a qcp file.

I wanted a good loud midi of Some Kind OIf Wonderful by Grand Funk Railroad and the ones I found didn't even soind like the song. The tune was way off. But I like both Midi and voice but the midis take up less space. Rose
