You cannot unlock Sprint phones. You can only activate them with Sprint. You can still use Sprint in Indiana, they do have coverage there.

I've read in other forums about people unlocking their Sprint phones and Verizon activating them with Sprint's ESN, so I guess it's possible. I'm guessing it's really hard though.. You're better off selling your phones here and using the cash to buy phones in India.

Just because you hear it doesn't mean it happened.

Also, nothing is impossible, but it's commonly known that it generally can't be done.

Finally, yes, I know of it happening, but not in this country and that's all I'll say about that.

It is commonly known that it generally can be done.

The topic of unlocking Sprint phones and using them on Verizon's network has been discussed many times on HOFO by respected forum members. Unlocked Sprint phones can be activated on Verizon's network but the features are limited. You can't use the web browser, you can't send pictures or SMS, and you can't install BREW applications on a Sprint phone.

It's true that just because I heard it doesn't mean it happened, but so many respected members have talked about doing it that I choose to believe so.

Yes, I know it can be done, but how many people do you know of that have had it done? Commonly known by word of mouth or people that have had it done first hand? Huge difference in my book.

And exactly what constitutes a 'respected' forum member? I'm not trying to shoot anyone down, but I guess I would just need to know of someone stateside that's had it done.

I know of some people in South America that do it (off the record), but that's another story.

Like Deval said, India is GSM only, per the government ( see http://www.coai.com/telephny.htm )

Since Sprint is CDMA, your phones will not work over there no matter what you do to them.

Sorry.

For what is there, there might as well be none. They are required to be at 800MHz, so as to not interfere with GSM (850 MHz in the country). Of the ones you listed, Only one is active across the entire country, one, isnt active yet, three are spotty at best, and the last has some coverage. You could try to get onto one of the networks, but I would think that you would be paying some serious bucks just to make a single call. It would be much easier just to plink down $25 and buy a cheap, used GSM and bring it over and have it work on the better, high end GSM systems in use there.

Just MHO.
