Question about goin' from ShortMail to SMS

I tried searching since I am new and have missed the change from ShortMail to SMS (I am a little behind the times). Anyway, I want to get a new phone soon and the SMS sounds great.

What I need to know before upgrading phones and possibly modifying plans is: With my current phone I have unlimited vision for 15 bucks a month, I am going to keep the vision no matter what phone I get, but if I upgrade phones, will my current unlimited vision plan cover at least 100 SMS messages, or will I have to pay extra for any use of the SMS texts.

Thanks in advance.

You will get at least 100 SMS messages with your plan, and (depending on how long you've had Vision) you may get unlimited messaging. Don't change anything on your plan until after you've made the ESN swap or you will definitely lose unlimited SMS (if it's coded in). - sheureka

Yeah, don't change anything. I got a new phone with sms and I didn't find out that I had unlimited sms until I found this forum and called *2.

Good advice so far, thank you.

I will definitely not chang anything then, now I dont have to if I will have atleast 100 SMS. This whole thing reminds me of other posts about how sprint will forget to bill you for something like video mail or they may bill you for it, like there is a chance that you will get a bonus, or something. I believe Ive had the unlimited vision for about 5 or 6 months now--does that help? I hope that by asking the sprint store or *2 that they dont say, "yes you do have unlimited SMS, but that shouldn't be, let me take that off of there." !!!! That would stink.

I actually called *2 and the rep told me not to mess with it. I can't remember the date for unlimited sms. I will try to look it up.

Try going online at sprintpcs.com and check your old bills.

Not sure if this is true throughout so please corect me if I'm wrong but when I look at my usage online it says unlimited wireless web messages below my minute usage and I have the grandfathered UL text messages. If it says that when you check your usage then you probably have UL SMS/Shortmail.

I'm basically looking at doing the same thing as the op.

Got an old POS N400 that's about 10seconds from out the window! For the most part it works, but reception is CARP! I'd get better cell phone reception from those old tv rabbit ears!

Looking at going with an A680.

My question is,does this affect the 18month rebate. In the sense that you have to do a 2yr contract. Does doing that change your plan?

If so, can you still do the rebate without changing your plan?

(Am out of contract right now, and am eligible for the 18month upgrade/rebate).

as long as your plan is above $35 you should be fine...and no need to change your plan

I do believe so. When I called *2, I was told that I had unlimited sms. I went from 4700 (never used ww but I had it) to N400 (needn't say anything)to VM4500. Under ww online it says unlimited. I guess that it carried over.
