Nextel GPS - Will Sprint ever do this?

Hi all-
Does anyone know if SprintPCS will ever start doing the GPS service that Nextel is doing? I think its a great idea and would personally pay for it!

Full on GPS functionality would be a downgrad? Uh no.

To answer NarcissusBoy78, yes Sprint PCS plans on releasing the MIDP 2.0 with their new batch of phones (aka Sanyo MM7400, MM5600, etc.) that will be able to access the phone GPS capabilities. When we will start seeing location-based services is anyone's guess though I'm guessing they will try to line it up with the release of EV-DO.

Nextel phones can all get their GPS position for free. They have a java app called TeleNav that can purchaced. TeleNav is pretty sweet, it gives audible driving directions. Only the Color Screen Nextel Phones can use java apps however.

*Writing that ALL Nextel phones can get the GPS position is a lie. Most of the phones shipped with a GPS bug where you can't get it to work. The fix is kind of like a Sprint PRL update and takes even longer.
