What is Sprint Data Optimizer?

What is Sprint Data Optimzer and what is it doing? I notice it always is running and lately I've been having heat issues with my phone so I'm looking at running apps.

Well ,my take on the Optimizer is ,it allows the radio search functions spectrum list ,to engage the strongest link signal on/in a given towers vicinity ,and/or a public Wi-Fi hotspot .

This as well ,translates into device system Heat being generated/discharged ,typically exceeding 40°deg.C.

Mfrs and the tech community continue to search for solutions .
Apparently ,it's problematic w/ Qualcomm and Samsung newest octo (8) cores ,These are indeed ,Race Horses of sorts .

wind .

besides supposedly picking best signal it remembers your wifi connections and when you are in that area it will automatically connect back to it.this is even if wifi is turned off.there is a wifi setting in phone that is on by default that allows wifi to search even when turned off.so if you are trying to save battery then find that setting and turn it off in addition to turning the connection optimizer off.i never liked it due to problems with my home wifi and it would connect to my router even if my internet connection was down.

Question :
Where can I find the settings to shut it down ?

Answer : Enter Settings , CLICK ⬆⬆ mobile data (not On/Off ) ,your now in mobile network setting ,CLICK line 5 Automatic Connections ,your now at "Optimizer" and top right box should be UNchecked ........-this is for Lollipop -

I figured it out. Thx. That was causing severe over heating problems. My internet is not stable and I guess it was always looking for a connection. It kept reverting back to wifi even after I had turned off wifi. Bad app.

Obviously not in every case. Running all the time caused severe heat problems.
