You know I saw T-Mobile and wasn't sure. It says unlimited but 40.00 for 4.5gb. So I get throttled after the 4.5 to a slower speed is all that means.

walmart has a $30 phone plan..100mins unlimited text and 5GB of data.

u can tether the phone and use the 5GB that way and save $10 and gain a extra half GB (.5)

What good is a data plan if you are unable to use it anywhere?

Why not use the hotspot or tethering feature available on many smartphones?

As for your suggestion, unless you pay for an additional plan allowing tethering, Sprint would consider such use a violation of the Terms and Conditions of Service. They have been know to issue an "Important Notice About Wireless Data Usage" letter of warning.

Either way you look at it, it's a money grab.

Why should he pay for an additional plan? We're only talking about activating one phone.

When I say "additional plan," I mean add-on feature.

No add-on should be necessary if he's only activating one phone and using it within the bounds of the existing plan.

It depends on which base plan he/she is on. E.g., family share plan - mobile hotspot usage is deducted from the total shared data allotment. ED plan requires add-on.

What I was getting at was just a plain-jain individual unlimited plan on one phone, no "add-on".

AFAIK Sprint doesn't allow tethering/hotspot use on any of its past or present individual unlimited data plans. I understand that people find workarounds. Nevertheless, Sprint considers such use to be a violation of the Ts n Cs of Service.

"Prohibited Network Uses. To ensure the activities of some users do not impair the ability of our customers to have access to reliable services provided at reasonable costs, you may not use our services in a manner that is unlawful, infringes on intellectual property rights, or harms or unduly interferes with the use of Sprint's network or systems. Sprint reserves the right, without notice or limitation, to limit data throughput speeds or quantities or to deny, terminate, end, modify, disconnect, or suspend service if an individual engages in any of the prohibited voice or data uses detailed below or if Sprint, in its sole discretion, determines action is necessary to protect its wireless networks from harm or degradation.

Examples of prohibited data uses: Sprint data services are provided solely for purposes of web surfing, sending and receiving email, photographs and other similar messaging activities, and the non-continuous streaming of videos, downloading of files or on line gaming. Our data services may not be used: . . .

(vi) for an activity that connects any device to Personal Computers (including without limitation, laptops), or other equipment for the purpose of transmitting wireless data over the network (unless customer is using a plan designated for such usage); or (vi) for any other reason that, in our sole discretion violates our policy of providing service for individual use. Unlimited Use Plans. If you subscribe to rate plans, services or features that are described as unlimited, you should be aware that such "unlimited" plans are subject to these Sprint Prohibited Network Uses."

Sounds like a technicality of yesteryear to me. Data is data and everyone tethers, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.
