Apple iPhone 6/6 Plus: US Pre-Order Stats

Quote:
In their latest report, folks over at Rcrwireless give us a brief overview of who among the big four carriers – Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile, have managed to bag in the most and least iPhone 6/6 Plus pre-orders in the US.

Some pre-order statistics regarding the Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in the U.S. are out today, and it seems AT&T lead the iPhone 6 team with 47.4% of all iPhone 6 and 53.8% of all iPhone 6 Plus pre-orders coming from them. AT&T exclusively had the iPhone for over three years and this likely contributes to its high percentage of pre-orders.

Coming in next was Verizon Wireless, carrying out 28% of the iPhone 6 pre-orders and 21.2% of the iPhone 6 Plus pre-orders. Verizon was offering a deal for those looking to upgrade to an iPhone 6, allowing those with older iPhones to trade-in their devices and be eligible for a free upgrade with the money given to them.

In third, you’ll find T-Mobile, holding 19% of all iPhone 6 pre-orders and 20.1% of all iPhone 6 Plus pre-orders. The fact the carrier is only used by 16% of the nation makes their pre-order share really impressive. Sprint came in last, supporting only 5.2% of all iPhone 6 pre-orders and 4.9% of all iPhone 6 Plus pre-orders.

These statistics were recorded from September 14th to September 16th and have nothing to do with the current sales of the two new Apple devices.

It seems 85% of pre-orders came from those who already had an older iPhone model. 36.2% of all upgrades came from iPhone 5 users whose two-year contracts were likely just expiring; 32.6% of pre-orders came from users with an iPhone 5S; 8.7% of iPhone 4S users ditched their old phone and pre-ordered an iPhone 6; 4.4% of updates came from iPhone 4 users, and 3.3% of upgrades came from iPhone 5C owners.

Overall, T-Mobile made it out the best of all, likely due to their hardcore advertising and great offers for plans and such. Of course, they were third in line for percentage of pre-orders, but the fact that it outdid its own market share with the percentage of pre-orders is fantastic news for the company, especially considering most of the pre-orders came from iPhone 5S users who were likely still locked in a contract.
What do you think of these numbers? Did you upgrade to an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus? If so, from what device and through what carrier?
