It's Official-Photon 4G WILL NOT receive ICS

After stringing customers along with the promise to update to ICS, Motorola has finally announced that the Photon "Will remain on Gingerbread (Android 2.3)"

Looks like Sprint's "ADMIRAL (XT603)" will stay on Gingerbread as well.

Agreed, and the "ATRIX 4G (MB860)" as well.

Yes. And there is no real upgrade path to Sprint customers. The Motorola Photon Q is not an equivalent phone and no other Motorola offerings.

Sucks.

Google is letting this whole upgrade thing get out of control with the OEM's and carriers. It owns Moto and now this debacle. As mentioned, the Photon and others certainly have the capability to take ICS and most likely JB.
It looks like going to a Nexus device is the only guarantee you will get al least one update.

I don't know why you guys think it can run it. It would just ruin the phone. Look how crappy it works on the evo 3d and epic touch. Be thankful for the bread of ginger.

Having experienced the same disappointment with the Cliq XT, I'm glad to see a $100 peace offering this time.

And yet the Xoom and Bionic get updated, so I don't think this is a technical issue.

I agree. As I stated in another thread, "There's really no incentive for Motorola to waste energy on it at this point. It's not like the update will generate more sales. Sprint doesn't even sell the Photon anymore. It reached EOL a while ago."

ICS runs great on my EVO 3D, not sure what you're talking about.

I said what I'm talking about. Nothing great about it and is why I restored gingerbread.

why are you guys upset about this.... there are solutions

1) 100 dollar credit from google
2) sell your photon like i did to some guy in russia for 300 dollars
3) upgrade
4) go on XDA and run jokers rom of CM10. CM11 doesnt work well but CM10 works pretty good

I was hoping the upgrade would fix some of the flaky things that happen on my phone. Maybe I will try Window 8 when it is time to upgrade.
