Problem With Samsung S2 Epic Touch Menu Button

I upgraded my phone last Tuesday and got the Epic Touch 4g from Samsung. The first day that I had it no problems but by the second day the menu started going nuts. It pops up and down over and over by itself. No matter what app ect. I am using.

I tried rebooting, taking out the batter, and even a factory reset. None of these things fixed the issue. It's quite annoying. I can't text or anything when it's doing this which is basically all the time. I took it to Sprint and of course it happened to be a time when it wasn't doing it and they didn't take me very serious. They were like well it's not doing it now so.......Now I have to take it back again which is super annoying because we just had fraudulent activity on our account and I have spent way too much time dealing with Sprint in the past week.

Is this a known issue with this phone? And do I just tell them I want a new one? I figure they will try all the tricks up their sleeve to fix it but really, I would just rather have a new one. I don't want to deal with this. Last time I went they guy just tried updating it but it was already up to date and I had already tried that.

I have the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and I love it. Never any problems at all. So my experience with Samsung thus far has been good.

I never had a problem with my E4GT screen. Perhaps a reset would be best?

Keep us updated. If you want to replace it, you only get 14 days. Good luck!

Same issue here...

I just purchased a Samsung Galaxy S2 4G Epic Touch on August 3rd...got a buy 1 get 1 deal right before the S3 came out and replaced both mine and my husband's older phones. Same exact issue on mine, not on his. My menu keeps randomly popping up over whatever I'm doing, with having touched the menu button. It's preventing me from doing what I need to, and is SO annoying. I feel as though I was better off with the old piece of garbage I had. Ugh.

My ET4G does exactly what you describe very occasionally. I'd say maybe a few times a month. When it happens it is impossible to do anything. I've read so many other reports if this problem that I would definitely consider it a known issue at least in the user community. I feel the hassle of getting Sprint to actually replace my phone, combined with the possibility of getting a replacement that does this even more makes me willing to just suck it up for now until I can upgrade sometime soon. But if I was within 30 days (and especially 15 as it sounds you are), I would force them to replace it or give me a full refund immediately. And if they didn't cooperate then I would consider it fraud and not hesitate to inform American Express as such and have them reverse the charges.

Good luck!

Unhappy

I have an appointment with Sprint on my lunch break today to attempt to rectify this situation. I purchased the phone 8/3/12, so just a month ago. I've also noticed now that I'm really paying attention, that it only occurs when I'm in areas of low service. It's extremely annoying and makes it nearly impossible to type a text message.I didn't have any problems with mine in the 1st 2 weeks, but I also probably hadn't traveled to any area with low service coverage...now that I am, it continues to happen. Ugh.

I have had this happen here and there and wasn't sure what caused it. The last couple days the 4G network in my area has been having problems so I have had to turn on the 3G. Well sometimes when the 3G is on it would cause the menu button to pop up the menu in an app, text, or just on home screen. Sometimes it would stop after a few but most time turn on wifi and it stops. Today I turned on and off the 4G and was able to make it do it sometimes.

Not sure if others where on 3G when this was happening. Returning this phone to store is not in question as this is now my third samsung galaxay s2 and before this it was five photon phones in 8 months. Been very disappointed with smartphones (first one owned) and almost all of the phones been refurbished but this one was actually a new one and been good for over a month other then this glitch.

This is due to being in a low 3g signal area.. a phone replacement should fix the problem. I believe sprint is aware of this.

I've had the same problem for a few weeks now. Took video of it happening w/ another phone and brought into the sprint store to show them. They said it is a known bug that samsung is working on. They said to turn off the screen, and then turn it back on while holding down the menu button and it will go away for a few days. More like a few minutes for me, but it makes my sgs2 mildly useful again & only sporadically annoying. If anyone hears about a patch or fix, please post.

I'm not sure what causes this problem, but is seems to be related to being in a low 3G signal area. For example, the problem seems worse when in an elevator or inside a building where you may have trouble getting 3G.

A couple of workarounds: When this happens, open your task manager by pressing and holding the Home icon. Flick away all the apps, then click Task manager and Clear memory. You can also turn off 3G by going to Menu > System settings > Data usage, and turning Mobile data off. You can set up a shortcut from your home screen (or a widget, if you have something like Elixir widgets) to make it easier. Finally, consider going to XDA-developers site and installing a updated (leaked) version of E4GT operating system. I seem to have fewer problems since updating to FI25. I'm not sure the update fixed the problem, or if it's just that in the process I uninstalled a bunch of unused/little used apps.

Good luck!

same problem

I recently bought a samsung epic touch 4g also. And I'm also having the same problem. Menu pops up whenever it feels like. Sometimes just once and goes away, but usually it happens repeatedly like when I'm trying to text or on facebook posting a reply. This happens whether I'm in 3g or 4g mode. In fact, it happens quite frequently when connected to wifi. Did you ever find a solution?
