Unhappy How to get my cracked screen fixed (evo 3d)

I have the insurance from sprint but i think it is a bit ridiculous to have to pay $100 to get my screen fixed when I pay i believe $8 a month for it and without insurance they charge like $130. after just 4 months I am paying more then $130 to fix it hypothetically.. A friend said his sister always drops her phone and cracks her screen and gets it fixed for free (with a smartphone also) but i have gone to 2 stores and both said that i would have to pay $100.. it is just the glass screen, the touch screen still works fine, it's just annoying having a big crack at the bottom of my screen. Anyone know how to get it fixed for cheaper than a ridiculous $100?

Try calling local 3rd party repair shops around town. They may be able to order a replacement piece of glass.

The other alternative is to buy a bad ESN phone that has a "good"piece of glass on it.

You should have known what your insurance covered and what it did not. By rule, cracked glass is an issue that Sprint will not cover directly and will send you to asurion for.

Try your local mall cell phone fixers.

Though, I'd just eat the $100 bucks, save myself the time and energy, and get a svelte replacement.

It's like car insurance. I pay $700 a year for full coverage on two trucks and still have a $500 deductible.

Sprint stopped replacing glass and other such work back in March of last year. I found that little bit of info out in November while in a store and asked about my cracked screen, third party replacement was $130. Keep in mind this was on my EVO Shift.

I believe all version of the EVO use "gorilla glass" and are likely not easily broken.

Finding a replacement piece of glass, since it is glass and not polycarbonate, is likely not that easy. I could be wrong though.

Bad ESN sometimes goes for as much as a Good one.

I have been down this path before. My brother in law suggested that, before I go to extreme measures, I take it into my local Sprint repair center, tell them the truth, and see if they can help. They stock spare parts and can often replace the screen themselves, for far less than the $100 fee (mine cost me $55 with no warranty and no insurance). There are also websites that sell replacement parts and repair kits. But, I would try the first route and let them know you were hoping for a repair because now is a really bad time to have to come up with an extra $100 (it is a bad economy, after all).

Good luck!

In retrospect, I have had one screen replaced for $55 in store, and one, where I called them up and the guy said, just come back and ask for me, and he replaced it for free. So, two times I broke my screen and didn't need to invoke my insurance. Just be honest.
