I'm glad I could share!

I suspected the screen protector could've been the issue until others (including in this thread) started confirming/reporting the behavior on their phones without screen protectors, too.

I came from a Palm Treo 700p. A trackball would actually probably be at the bottom of my list of preferred options for a hardware cursor-navigation device, but I'd imagine it'd still be better than nothing.

i agree the shutter sound is kinda annoying
and it could use a d-pad/arrow keys/ok button and it would be perfect

this is my 1st android phone so im still gettin used to it
any recommendations on useful apps?

I'm trying to install words with friends and hanging but obviously they're not in the app store. How do I go about downloading the apk or whatever onto the phone?

Another thing, I can't seem to get my settings so that I just receive vibration for notifications and calls. If I set to silent mode then I get no sound and no vibration but if I turn it off and put "always vibrate" on it will just make the sound with no vibration. What gives? Vibration definitely works on the phone btw.

Words with Friends was the trickiest one to get for me.

In general, try going to the develeoper's page and seeing if you can download it there. This usually has the best luck with small/open source apps. My work blocks zynga's site as a game site, so I can't get there from here. Try that first, but it wouldn't surprise me if they don't have a direct download, and just refer you to the market.

What I did to get the .apk is this.

A friend with an Android phone that the market WILL install on got Words with Friends. Then he backed up the app using Titanium Backup. This essentially copies the app's apk. Then he transferred the apk to a computer I could access, and then I got the apk on the Admiral. Browsed to it and selected it in Admiral's file explorer, and it installed.

Wow, that's a pain in the ass. I've submitted a request that they update their apps. We'll see if that goes anywhere before I try this ass-backwards method. Thanks for the details though.

Yep yep.

You could also just try searching for the apk downloadable from somewhere else. I didn't like a small security risk there.

You could also look up ways to change what device the phone tells the Market it is. These kinda scared me too though.

For awhile I tried to get the Android Emulator that comes with the SDK to install the Market, but I couldnt get it to work.

Liking this phone more and more each day.

Pros:
Battery life (at least a day of heavy use)
Fast performance, haven't noticed any slow downs
Good speakers
Good feel in hand but not too heavy
Solid build

Cons:
Some app compatibility issues due to screen size (hopefully these will be fixed soon)
Camera is slow to actually take picture one button pressed

I just got this phone and I love it! I'm wondering... how exactly do you remap the direct connect button to an app? I've been trying to fiddle around with it and can't seem to find anything that changes it... I'm gunna continue to play with it but please do give me a hand and just tell me how to do it x_x
