Will Sprint iPhone be eligible for TEP and Asurion coverage ???

Title says it all... I have a feeling that it will be one of those devices which will be excluded from TEP. Because this way, apple holds the controls of refurbs...

Yes, No , Maybe ??

It is not available for the iPhone

I just read all the pre-order information here: http://shop.sprint.com/modals/preord...ils_modal.html

Pre-order: how it works
While supplies last, you can skip the lines and reserve your very own iPhone. Pre-order online only and only as long as our secret stash lasts.

Charges
We'll charge your card for your device today, and if you are starting a new line, we'll activate your phone in the warehouse so it's ready for you right out of the box. For some customers, your plan service may begin early. We'll credit you back for any plan service charges prior to shipment in 1 to 2 billing cycles.

Shipping
We know you are dying to get your hands on it. Excluding extreme circumstances, we'll do our best to make that happen Friday, Oct. 14 or Saturday, Oct. 15. During the pre-order period, we will send you a shipping email and tracking number. Your tracking number included may not be updated until Friday, Oct. 14.

Multiple orders
We're sorry. Pre-order phones cannot be packaged together with other orders. Please complete your pre-order order, checkout and come back to order any additional phones, tablets or mobile broadband devices.

Upgrades
Your phone will not be activated when it ships. You can activate online at sprint.com/activate. If you have Total Equipment Protection today, it is not available for this device. We'll remove it for you when you activate your device.

Keeping your number
You can bring your number from another carrier. We'll ask you for it when you checkout. Check your packing slip when you get your device for additional instructions on moving your number to Sprint.

AppleCare+
If you purchased AppleCare+, it includes coverage for up to two incidents of accidental damage from handling, each subject to a $49 service fee. For complete terms and conditions, visit: www.apple.com/legal/applecare. AppleCare+ is not available for customers in Guam, Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands.

Returns
We hope you'll love your new device. However if you don't, our standard return and cancellation policy applies. Check out sprint.com/returns for more information.

People will abuse the system and claim loss... It's smart on Sprint's part. I don't think anybody insures the iPhones.

No Sprint ESRP, but Asurion offers MobileProtect for the iPhone.

Aw man. That's a deal killer for me. I REALLY wanted the iPhone, but I needed it to have insurance, and it also does not have call record which is a vital feature for me. This sucks, I guess I will have to stick with my ipod touch.

What about applecare? Isn't that around the same price per year(99 / 12 = 8.25)?

There are pro's and cons to both although Apple care seems like a good deal (unless your phone is ever loss or stolen, which none of us will be able to tell the future and foresee if you'll ever be in that situation ). To answer the question tho, the iPhone is not eligible for TEP but here's a comparison anyway. I think I accurately hit all the points

AC: Its $99 and it covers you for the full 2 years.
TEP is $96/year or $192 for the full 2 year contract.

AC: Full $99 billed to the acct at the time you buy the phone.
TEP: Pay $8/month and you get 30 days after you get the phone to decide if you want it or not.

AC: Only allowed 2 claims over the 2 year span
TEP: Allowed up to 3 claims/year

AC: $49 deductible
TEP: $100 deductible

AC: Covers manufacturer defects, electrical issues, physical damage (within reason), liquid damage
TEP: Covers manufacturer defects, electrical issues, physical damage (any kind), liquid damage, LOST, STOLEN

Supposedly, according to a local Sprint Store rep, Sprint is working with Assurion to create an iPhone insurance policy. Supposedly.....
