Kyocera Echo Sales?

Just wondering I remember a few months ago, Sprint made a big deal about the launch of their Kyocera Echo. Since then I haven't heard much about. I also noticed Sprint lowered the price to what seemed to be their high profile phone. Just wondering has sales been disappointing?

I've actually heard that it wasn't that bad of a phone to use, from phone testers. I wonder how it would've sold if it was made by Apple or Samsung? Do you think it's the design or manufacturer or both, that it didn't sell to well.

It hasn't sold because the second screen adds nothing worthwhile. It carries a premium price, but the screen is small, it's bulky and has a hinge but lacks a keyboard, and has mediocre specs. There's nothing compelling about it, and it has major shortcomings compared to other similarly-priced devices.

Agreed. One point you forgot to make is that developing native apps for a dual screened Android device isn't worthwhile.

But Sprint was *ahem* 1ST in offering such a phone. (Another FAIL to be first, imo...Waiting on sales numbers to see if the EVO 3D will fit the same description. So far, things look good.)

Personally I wouldn't buy it because it looks cheap and easy to break; kind of like a Virgin Mobile phone they sale at carts in the mall. I mean compare a HTC or Samsung and its clear which phone looks built better. I think thats the main reason if sales are poor. Its not the brand my friend has a MyTouch on T-mobile and its another no name phone brand, but it at least looks like a quality phone.

The MyTouch phones are HTC. I'm not sure why T-Mobile stripped the HTC branding from them. That's why it looks like a quality device though - it is

When the Echo was announced, I myself immediately focused on:

- Lack of 4G. Absolutely rules out any "high-end" classification or price. Without 4G it can only be a mid-range model.

- Projected lack of Android updates. The special modifications to Android 2.2 to handle a dual screen were not, as far as we know, incorporated by Google into the official Android build. Without heavy sales (which did not materialize), there is no money or incentive ever to upgrade the Echo to 2.3.

Stopped by the local Sprint store and checked out phones. The sales rep said that he didn't think their store had sold a single one.

My wife has the Echo and simply loves it, I played around with it quite a bit and it is a extreamly well built phone. Of course being Android we have had to hard reset it three or four times, but It is nice to watch movies on the larger screen and having a large OSK is is pretty cool.

ever use one? Restart bugs and build quality were horrid. Was an intresting idea but not enough money was put into it
