Does Sprint offer a month to month plan?
Hello, I was curious how something like this might work. My friend has an iPhone, and it is literally on the brink of failing (the back is split open, the microphone stopped working, takes forever to boot, its literally falling to pieces and so forth), my friend needs a phone, and I have a Palm Pre that I am not using at the moment, its collecting dust after I upgraded to the Evo 4G, but my friend could definitely make use of it. My friend wants to get an Evo 3D soon too, but at the moment cannot afford it, so until we can afford the new phone and everything, is there a way we can setup the Pre with Sprint service, pay month to month without a crazy 2 year contract or anything like that? Its really just temporary, for a month or two at the most, does anyone offer a prepaid sort of service like that on Sprints network? If we setup the Pre on a contract, could we later upgrade to the Evo 3D, without having to wait a certain amount of time to be able to upgrade to the 3D, and without paying full price for the 3D?
Thanks much everyone, I really appreciate any help! Thanks in advance! -Michael |

No on setting up the pre without having to later pay full price for the 3D unless you want to wait the time period. If you are going to get the contract, just get the 3D now.

The only month-to-month options are pre-paid with all its glorious throttled speeds and weak device line-up and to get a two year contract and let it run out...then, technically, you are paying month-to-month.
However, if your friend activates a previously used phone and not a new radio device (a.k.a. your Pre), in rare instances Customer Care/some nice Sprint Stores have allowed you to get a new device at the new 2-year cost since you didn't previously use the discount to get a lowered price on a device. Catch is, do it within 30 days. If you go into a store to do it, ask them if you can upgrade a walk-in activation line right away instead of after 22 months.

Oh, and GO TO A CORPORATE STORE. None of this third-party hullabaloo.

See if they can activate the Pre on Virgin Mobile or Boost. It seems people have some luck activating clean ESN sprint phones on those 2 services. Seeing as how they are offshoots of Sprint and all.

Yeah, your best bet is to have that phone flashed to a different carrier. Sprint only does month-to-month after you've already completed a contract with them.

Seriously. Flashing a phone to a different carrier carries it's own unintended consequences for the unprepared...

What consequences? Granted, it'd be hard to flash it back to Sprint later (if not impossible with the resources that regular consumers have), but other than that, what consequences present themselves? |

MetroPCS is very open about two things. First, you can flash any CDMA phone to them (though they don't say anything about GSM/CDMA until you ask/try. Second, the web and text probably won't work. The manufacturers have very little say in their product, as the carriers control what does and does not happen within the device...and it is constructed to be optimized for the network. I am not a hardware expert, but AFAIK flashing does not overcome this last point.

Sprint doesn't do it and it's idiotic they don't. They would be getting another $20 a month from me if they did but I am not signing a two year contract to get an eleven year old a phone, he can deal with prepaid for now. Even evil Verizon allows you to bring your own equipment and do month to month.
