how to improve your 4g signal

go to ##data#
enter your msl

change standby time to 20 min
scan retry 15 seconds
idle sleep 10 seconds
wimax entry rx (this is the critical one) from -89db to -110db

see if this helps. it was set to -89 so if its entry is -110db, it may be able to reach even in the most fringe areas, someone let me know if this helps

CAUTION: WE ALL KNOW 4G IS A BATTERIES DOMINATRIX, SO IT MAY AFFECT BATTERY LIFE

If you are rooted you can download an app called MSL Reader for free from the market. Otherwise you can call tech support and get it. Say that you are having all kinds of data issues and it won't connect right. They will give you the 6 digit MSL during the provisioning process.

Does the change the signal strength needed before the phone will connect to wimax?

Having Wimax connect at a signal that is lower than -89 means you may get connected, but the speed is gonna be worse. -110 is pretty low signal. I would try -100 and test. If slow, start raising the number. If you still cannot connect, lower it a little and test again if you can connect.

The other settings may help to connect and stay connected. But remember that it will be at the expense of battery. If you turn off 4G when not using it, it will not be a problem.

Let us know how it goes.

I'm in a fringe area, and am looking at getting the 3D when it comes out. Would be good to know if this could have any effect at all should I need to try it.

Take note of large amounts of metal between you and the tower. Based on what you are saying, it may be a steel-frame structure.

Go to clear.com/coverage (aka Sprint's 4G) to find the closest tower and put the modem/handset in the window facing that tower (if available).

If your signal CINR is less then 12 your speeds will be slow and have connection problems.

Yeah for the worse, instead of not picking up low signals. Your phone will be broadcasting on high to try and reach out and talk back...

Ok so I tried it. And have been playing with this for about 24 hours.

I think it was -89 by default?

Anyway once I changed 3g has just plummeted in speed test returns and 4g has lowered slightly.

I did have fun and while on the train facing a tower with 4 bars of 4g changed to -60db and got about 4580 dl in Chicago. (Sadly when I was in San Antonio Id get 4000 regularly but I digress.)

Well since my 3g plummeted and my 4g has decreased Ive done a few things trying to get back.

First HTC evo 4g rooted, stock rom, toasty general kernel, and now the latest radio update.

Ive updated prl and profile several times.

My speeds are wacked. I get like 800 dl and 1800 upload. What?? Hows that?

Im currently at -90db.

Does changing the db effect 4g AND 3g? Or just 4g? I assume both.

My main problem now is 3g is getting as low as 54kb. Not kidding.

On average about 500kb. See the attached results.

Any suggestions to get 3g back to normal? The only reason I tried these is I have to be in the front room by the window to get 4g. But now I cant really get 3g nearly at all.Tia

omg I knew it. lol! It did cross my mind. Figures Id try this and a storm makes things all wacky. That accounts for tests all over the place.

Its coming back though. This morn 3g is working quite well.

Awesome! straight from 'Sprint'. Thanks for the info.

Congrats. Sprint is awesome. Dont think ive had a dropped call yet. Sprint 3g is comparable to other companies 4g. And last company w unlimited data.
