Stop text messages from crawling across screen top

Is there anyway to get my incoming text messages to not scroll across the top of my screen? If someone else is holding my phone when a text comes in, they can read it right when it gets there. Anyway to stop this?

Thanks for the help!

Send a message via AIM to unbreakableblue
In the messages app, go into settings. There should be an option under received messages called 'received notification'. Make sure it is unchecked. That should stop your messages from showing in the status bar.

LMAO....hiding something player. They tried to dumb this phone down although its called a smartphone. Best part is you have the option to turn it off or there is an app that will turn it off for you. Got to love Android.

Will it still show that I have a new message? The envelope box is fine, just don't want the whole freaking message displayed for everyone to see! Gotta cover my tracks!

Disabling the notification stopped the icon from showing as well as the new message tone from sounding. I just don't want the message to show. Any other suggestions?

you could always start using handcent as your messaging app. Handcent has an option for 'privacy mode' that keeps the message content from being shown in the notification bar. That's all I've got. Do your thing, homey.

coming from winmo i have to say i miss the privacy option.
picture this everyone wants to see your new phone. the evo is awesome and people love to look at the live background and play with it. GF's 10 year old bro has phone to feed and mess with live wallpaper fish. GF text i want you to f**k me hard like you did last night. what now?
then even the lock screen shows some of the message.

Privacy Option????

I am still looking for options to stop getting text messages to crawl across the top of my screen. If I disable to message notification, I don't get an icon, tone, or anything indicating I have a message with Handcent or the default message widget. Any other suggestions or settings???

How do you get handcent to be your primary messaging service so everything isn't duplicated in your default messages??? Anyway to do this?

The messages will always go to your primary messaging app, but if you uncheck the notification option in the messaging settings, you'll only see the handcent icon when you get a text.

Also, if you're using handcent and are worried about your privacy, make sure you disable the pop ups.
