Using Sprint in the Bahamas?

I'm planning on traveling to the Bahamas but was curious to the service and rates over there? I'm using the Palm Pre at the moment but also have the 8830 if that makes a difference. Any suggestions and experiences?

When I travelled there for work a few times (yes, it was terrific), I kept the phone turned off. The rates are horrible, to say the least.

When I was there last September, I was charged $2.29/min.

Remember to enable your phone to allow international roaming for your phone in your account settings or by calling *2.

While roaming, make sure you set your phone to Roam Only or Allow Roaming, otherwise you won't get service.

Prepaid may be the better option for any needed calls when traveling at those roaming rates

I would have to agree with Dan. Prepaid is going to be much better option. Sprint international is just very expensive.

Yup - but with prepaid, what is the best way to get incoming calls to your Sprint cell# to go to the prepaid phone? And what are the best prepaid phones for calling from an international location?

My suggestion would be getting a Google voice number and having it ring your prepaid phone in the Bahamas. Depending on the rates, it can be far less expensive than having them call your Bahamas number direct, or paying the roaming rates.

The best prepaid phones? Typically, any quad band GSM device is "best" as it can work domestically and in most international locations. The normal bands are 800, 900, 1800 and 1900 Mhz.

Those are my thoughts exactly. If I were going to the bahamas or Jamaca or anywhere outside of the U.S I wouldn't be taking a phone, cause I wouldn't want to be bothered. But that is just me. Good luck finding a solution however OP!!

I recommend getting a pre paid and using Google Voice and forward the calls through that

Be forewarned: in the Bahamas, there is no such thing as free wifi/internet - you'll likely pay by the hour. That is not necessarily a bad thing, though.
