Motorola i1 now available on sprint.com

The originally Boost mobile branded phone is now available on the Sprint.com website for ordering.
The price with a 2 year contract is:
Regular price $349.99
Instant savings -$150.00
Web special -$50.00
Online price $149.99

I plan to buy this phone and compare it to my Samsung Moment when my Sprint Premier upgrade is eligible within a month.

I know the biggest problem is this phone is on the iDen network but currently my Samsung Moment drops down from 3g to Sprint 1xRTT which is super slow.

I'd rather have it constantly connected at a medium speed then going from fast to slow for the next 10 minutes.

I want a Motorola phone or a Nokia phone really bad but if this is the best Sprint has to offer, I'm holding out. It reminds me of the Cliq XT but I have a funny feeling it won't be getting much support as far as updates go

Isn't this thing only 1.5? Which is criminal IMO! I can't understand why anyone would buy android with that running on it unless you just needed push to talk.

Verizon gets crazy phones like the Droid X and Droid 2, while Sprint gets this piece of crap? This is why Sprint continues to lose customers...

yes its 1.5, but its still a huge jump for nextel. are there better android phones? of course. is there a better nextel phone? no.
i just ordered this for my mom sunday and set it up yesterday. she has nextel because of work(shes a carpenter) and wanted something to replace her i580. she needed something rugged so i was looking at the brute. it would have been a small upgrade, little bit thinner and a little bit better camera. the i1 let her keep the ruggedness and dc needed for work, but lets her have android that she can have her facebook and other apps that she wants.

after playing with it for a bit while i switched her stuff over from the old phone and everything, i can say the phone itself isnt too bad. think moment -keyboard +extra strength glass. the 1.5 is the only thing holding it back, so if they update it to at least 2.0/2.1 it would be a pretty badass phone

The slow IDen network doesn't help it. Thankfully, there is WiFi.

yea i did forget that. i was using it on the home wifi and wifi worked great. good connection and speed while on it.

i really hope they start using the gorilla glass on more phones. these screens keep getting bigger and bigger and the bigger the screen the easier to break.

on another note, i got mad to see an 18bit screen on this low end android knowing my high end evo has a 16bit

Lose customers? Guess you haven't read the news Sprint gained over 100,000 new customers last quarter.

More specifically, according to Sprint's quarterly report:
---
For the quarter, Sprint added a total of 111,000 net wireless customers consisting of net retail subscriber declines of approximately 55,000 and net additions of 166,000 wholesale and affiliate subscribers.

Net postpaid subscriber losses of 228,000...
The CDMA network added almost 136,000 postpaid customers while iDEN lost almost 364,000 [postpaid] customers.
---

It is unclear how many of those 136,000 new postpaid CDMA customers were simply transfers from iDEN.

I would be all over this phone for the ruggedness. I have next to no need for the direct connect, but it would be waesome to have such a tough Android phone.

Really, how much more would it cost them to have a rugged version of something like the hero, or one of the other newer Android phones?
