1.4 Issue? Alternating Music/Volume logo and levels
So I want to see if anyone else is having this issue as well as far as 1.4 goes. At this point I have random occurrences where my phone will show on the bottom a set of icons as though I am changing the volume on my phone, the it will switch back to a music icon. This will continuously keep alternating at a rapid pace, so rapid it is difficult to see the "volume" icon. The volume level will alternate between 7 and 10 bars (I don't know what the actual levels are, but a good estimate).
It seems to also occur at random times while on a call as well. What this almost looks like to me is that the Pre does not know if there is a earpiece/headphones in the headphone jack and is going back and forth on me. My phone has been stuck in "headset" mode a few times previously, although has not occurred recently. This may just be a part of being an early adopter, but I hope not... The other new app installed at this time besides OS1.4 is youmail as well. I'll work on paying a little closer attention to that app as well. Has anyone else experienced anything of this nature?

Funny enough, my phone was doing alright for the most part through tonight, and as I go to check my phone after typing the post, I found it in the same state for about 2 seconds (actual estimate, not just a thought). YouView was not open at the time.

I am not having the issue you posted about and I have the You Mail app installed also. I am not sure what could be causing that.

I'm having the SAME issue. It almost seems like its activated with the movement sensors. I set it down and it shows me the music volume. So weird.
On an unrelated note, is anyone having issues with Tweed? I've been using it for 2 twitter accounts, and it's great. But ever since the update, I can't go to links from Tweed. |

Since the update my phone displays the sound level bar every time I change from phone call list to dial pad.

Looks as though there is a forum section at PreCentral for this as well that I couldn't find originally.
http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pr...con-bug-6.html Looks to be related to the original batch of phones. Now it is just a matter of Sprint getting an update out there for this.

I just read that thread. I guess I am not having the problem because I didn't have one of the original Pre's. I hope Palm doesn't drag their feet with an update.

My original Pre was acting up, I had it since last June, Sprint sent me a refurbished replacement. The refurb was worse than my original, in fact, the original owner of the replacement Pre had it for several months before it somehow made it's way back to Sprints warehouse. I called and complained, Sprint then sent me a brand-new Pre with a newer build date. The earlier builds are the ones with the problems, for those with the replacements Pre's, go to your phone dial pad and enter ##786#, scroll down to "actdate" then to "warrantydatecode". Those dates should give you an idea of how long the original owner had their Pre before they returned/exchanged it!

Well, I just spoke with the tech support folks. The tech support person definitely was mistaken as she stated "this is impacting all of the Pres", when we know in fact it seems to be the earlier batches of the Pre's only from what I've been reading about.
Palm is working on a patch to this, most likely to see an accelerated 1.4.1 patch, much like what happened in 1.3 if I remember correctly. Have to admit, I've been lucky thus far and not needed any of the urgent "patches" until now.

I didn't think Sprint would do much with this specific problem. It should be addressed by Palm in a timely matter since it was there update that has caused the problem.
I hope they don't drag there feet and get out an updated patch as fast as possible. I am sure it must be annoying to say the least.

I will edit my post as I have to agree with you on this as well. Just wish that I could get a little more details though as well, to gain a better understanding. That is more my own desire to learn than anything to do with anything else.

My refurb says ACTDATE 7/1/09 WARRANTYDATECODE says 6/23/09 RECONDDATE is 10/21/09. So how long was it used for? I don't really care since it works better then my original and 2nd Pre that I bought off Craigslist.

Your phone could have been used anywhere from 30 to 90 days. The replacement I had was actually used (confirmed by our Sprint rep) for 7 months then returned/exchanged. The refurb date was 2/2010.

For those that do have this "bug", what has your experience been as far as battery life on 1.4? For me it has been a giant step backwards. In whatever the latest 1.3x release was I could have location services turned on all the time and get a full day of battery no problem. Now I'm back to turning it off (and I think I forgot to turn it off after turning it on for an app or two) in order to try to make it through a day...
