Sprint Premier and changing primary line

My wife and I were just recently changed to premier status and my line, which is primary, is up for the full rebate. There isn't anything out there that is pulling me to upgrade to, but my wife is thinking she might like something, but we only got her Touch Pro a year ago. I was thinking I could just get customer service to change her line to the primary line on the account and then we could upgrade her phone, but I wasn't sure if that would mess up the premier standing. There are some other concerns as far as add-ons go, but that is a different issue. Anyone tried doing this or should I not worry about it? I know I could just get whatever phone she wanted and keep it on my line for 30 or 60 days and then transfer it around, but she would prefer not to do it that way if possible.

I don't think the primary status can flip flop like that but I could be mistaken

You could transfer it as soon as you get it but you would lose the MIR.

You can transfer primary lines however the transfer doesn't take affect for 3 months so you will have to wait that time for her to get her upgrade anyway. Then I'm not sure if there is any stipulation as far as how long she would have to be primary before you would be able to 'switch' again, I'm sure there would be some kind of restrictions on that also.

Thanks for the help guys. Part of her issue is that she has actually had a sprint line longer than I have (since 1997 while I've only had it since 2001) and she doesn't understand while her line doesn't qualify for the extra stuff. I've tried explaining that it our account as a whole that qualifies, they just target it all at the primary line, and while she understands she doesn't like it. I personally don't care if my line is primary or secondary as long as it doesn't change our plan.

If it doesn't make any difference to you, then you may just want to switch her line to primary. It doesn't affect the primary name on the account or the primary person on the account, just the line. I have always been the primary which works out best because I'm more interested in phones than my husband so I prefer the yearly upgrade so it works out best for us.

I probably will once we get this figured out BerryChic. I'm not saying I wouldn't mind the quicker upgrades, but I've got more patience than she does and I'm more willing to wait for upgrades. I had the phone before my Diamond for 4 years before I upgraded while she had two phones in that same time frame, granted that was because her phones broke, but still.

I just don't want to switch her to primary and then have it mess up our plan (she has a grandfathered vision service) or mess up the eligibility for the rebate.

Just buy the phone using your upgrade and give it to her, use her's next year for you. I wouldn't go thru all that because it could complicate things

I'm in the same situation now -- what did you end up doing? Is it easy to switch a line to make it primary line? Are there any unforeseen consequences of doing that?

Thanks...

Also, if she had a line since 1997, she qualifies for Premier independently (though not sure how it works when its a joint account) since customers who have been with Sprint for 10 years are premier, regardless of their monthly spending.

Qualifications listed here at the bottom

EDIT: Looks like in this forum on sprint.com, a Sprint Premier team member says its possible to change which line is primary and can take up to 3 billing cycles.

Changing phones primary status on your account is easy and when I did, It showed after my next billing cycle. They say it CAN take up to three months but it usually won't. It does nothing to your plan or eligablity status so no worries there.

After you switch the primary line on a Premier account, does the new primary line become eligible for an upgrade one year from the switch date, or one year from the contract start date on that line?

I believe it will be for the correct rebate eligibility date.

I called in for something else and found out My line was not primary. The CS changed it and said it would take effect on the next billing cycle. I'll find out on the nineteenth.
