Calculating Bill after taxes and fees?

Hi everyone,

I am not actually a Sprint customer yet, although I am considering it for the Palm PRE. I am interested in the $70/month plan (Everything Data 450), but I know that after surcharges and fees it will be considerably more. The small print on Sprint's website says a bunch of vague things, and so I'm trying to get a general idea on how much the actual bill would be before I sign up.

The small print says:

Monthly charges exclude taxes, Sprint Surcharges [incl. USF charge of up to 12.9% (varies quarterly), Administrative Charge (up to $1.99/line/mo.), Regulatory Charge ($0.20/line/mo.) & state/local fees by area].

I called Sprint Customer Care, and they told me that all of the surcharges/taxes/fees were imposed by my local tax office, which was a blatant lie, and so I couldn't find the answer I was looking for. Does anyone have this plan? How much do you pay in total?

Thanks for any help...

(Edit: I am in Pennsylvania, if that helps to calculate things.)

Figure 15% more than your subtotal. If it is a few percentage points more or less then so be it.

I'm in PA., Montgomery County, just outside of Philly. They sent me a bill (overcharged again) $312.48 for the services etc. Added to that "Sprint Surcharges...$27.97" plus
"Gov Taxes & Fees...$25.14" For a grand total of $365.59 Included in that tax bracket is a Philadelphia City-Sales Tax. I live 35 miles out of the city & when I ask them about it, they're cluless. The previous mo the total was $226.40 including Sprint surcharges of $17.96 and taxes of $17.02
I just did the math. the bill for $365 =11+ % for surcharges and 12.4% for taxes. The other bill for 226.40 had 10.7% surcharges and 11.2% for taxes.
Am I the only one this confuses?
If you do go w/ Sprint closely examine every bill. They make so many mistakes it's unbelievable.
Good Luck!

Doesnt matter if you live in our out of city limits, you are going to pay a city and state sales tax,911 fees, etc etc etc....

cell phone taxes have been a matter of heated debate for many a day on every carrier, some are upwards of 25% of a bill -sprint does have taxes/fees/surcharges of their own, but the state/local taxes are set by the individual states

Its probably the ONE part of your bill that is correct as its calculating as % of the total charges, its the charges that are messed up

I'm pretty sure that you have to live in a city, or have your number associated with a city, to be taxed by that city.

Imagine living 100 miles out of a city and having them tax your cell bill. Illegal would be the only way to describe that!

Now, your "city" tax could be replaced by a "county" tax of the same amount, but that would be legal

Anybody know of a website that lists current cellphone tax rates for various jurisdictions, especially counties and cities/towns? I've been trying to find this information for my location (to verify Sprint is charging the correct rate) and haven't had any luck. Even the websites run by my city say nothing about it.

Contact your local legislator's office, usually very helpful or

e-mail USA.gov

or go to
http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/cgb/form499/499a.cfm
That page from the FCC is titled: Form 499-A:
"Now it's simple and easy to get information about telecommunications companies."

You'll definately get what you need from 1 of thise 3.

Good luck & please let me know how you did & who you contacted.
Thanks

I had moved from Iowa to Florida & switched my address after afew months. My bill went up about $15! It seemed ridiculous so I just switched my address back to Iowa. No sense in paying more for the same thing

Hi Dan,

I am still being taxed by a city where my wife and I have never lived. We chose for our cellular numbers to be "local" in that city because it is where my in-laws live (and they could call us from their home phones). Oddly enough, we have lived in California for a while now.

So, we are now being taxed by both California AND Texas -- with the greatest portion of our taxes being assessed from the town in Texas.

Is this normal?

I called Sprint three times about this. Each time, they said that they would run an audit and then call me about it. Each time, I never heard back from them. In fact, I was also told that the audit was never performed too.

If it isn't normal, what should I do?

Ask the rep to check billing all user address as well. Once that has been corrected have them open the tax case
