Good reason(s) to choose Android phones?

You be the judge!

I stumbled on an article (not sure if discussed on this forum already), which was kind of interesting and made good reading material (including 99% free non-noobish comments), IMO.

It talked mostly about WinMo vs. Android, but it did include a tiny bit of RIM, IPhone, Symban, Nokia & Pre comparisons. I can honestly say I was amazed RIM was up there, goes to show I know jack of BB's potential lol.

Of course, everyone has their own point of views. - Hope you enjoy the reading!

P.S. bigchico68, I thought of you when I found this .

P.S.S. No flaming!!!! I did not post this as a debate starter, but more as of an informative (if you want to call it that) / interesting post.

Nothing there yet. Maybe in a year they will have some decent apps for Android. Until then, I stick with Win Mobile.

I love my diamond and my pro but after spending a work day playing with an iphone and some simple apps it reminded me of the reason I got my first palm device back in the day. the ability to have fun simple apps that put a smile on your face. it seems that in 2009 winmo has dropped the ball a bit and i dont see myself waiting around much longer for them.

Andriod might be the only thing that keeps me on sprint.

On android market it's...
40 apps for paid
140 for free

On the net? Who knows, Matt might be able to shed more light since he owns an android.

I recalls seeing the article below saying 800, but I dunno...
http://gpsobsessed.com/how-many-andr...there-try-800/

You can browse games and apps here http://www.cyrket.com/

Keep in mind that those are only from the Android Market. There are other places to get home brewed apps.

The app store may blow but the platform and phones are here today. My upgrade is coming in two months and no way am I going with WM 6.5.

The most important apps for any phone are email, sms, browsing. They seem pretty darn good on the G1 I've been playing with and can only be better on the G2. What's pathetic about my WM 6.1 device is that the experience is only tolerable thanks to great third party apps, like Java Gmail, TouchPal, and Opera Mini.

I haven't used any of the more recent dressed up HTC devices. If those phones browse, sms and email well, then there might be little reason to change to Android or anything else.

There is noise that Android's Facebook app is coming soon. Let's hope they don't abandon it like Microsoft did with their WM Facebook app after one version.

There is this wonderfull app called WMWiFiRouter that creates a WiFi hotspot from your Diamond. If you have an Ipod Touch it will use this hotspot to run all those cool Iphone/Touch apps. You can also use this hotspot on your laptop/netbook as well. I just used this yesterday to access the web on my Macbook Air and Ipod Touch.

The wmwifirouter is not available for Android or Apple devices, so not a reason to get either device.

I have been doin my research on android and it looks pretty exciting!! I wasnt feeling the first couple devices but the Hero has caught my eye. I liked the Euro version but Sprints is cool too. As long as i can text as fast on the virtual keyboard as i do on my instinct , then i most likely will get it. I really like Droids buttons and trackball. Anyone know what the media player is called?

wifi router in general is not available yet, tethering is allowed thru usb for now. Just a matter of time until someone finds a way, since android is open source os + linux.

My point was that you do not have to abandon your current plan to get one of the new (Pre, Hero) phones to run "cool" apps. Using your current HTC Diamond and with WMWiFiRouter you can get the Ipod Touch and run any of the 60,000+ apps that are in Apple's App store.
