Cool Went back to trusty SCP/RL-4xxx series phones...

After trying several differnet phones, and playing with data, and such...I realized I love my SCP-4900, and RL-4920/30's way better than anything right now....as far as performance goes...Actually, I've been using my SCP-4900 for the past few days...damn, the RF performance on this badboy is nuts...

Just thought I'd drop in to comment....I want a newer phone of course, but something that matches the performance of this legendary family of phones....has to be a Sanyo of course....hmmm

I've had 4900, 4920, and 4930, the 4900 had phenomenal radio performance, and great audio, the 4920 had a great radio section, but lousy audio, the 4930 was probably the best PHONE phone ever to have a Sprint label.

I miss my 4930. They just DO NOT make 'em like that anymore.

(Pic of my 4930 from when I offered it up to whomever needed it.)

So true my brother, they don't make them like that anymore....yeah, been bouncing back and forth between the 4900 and the 4920....a friend of mine desperatly needed a phone so I gave him my 4930....I loved that phone too....I might get another just to have....but, I figure, what am I going to do with a 4900, a 4920, and 4930......I love the 4900 RF, but it's really limited, and being dual-band, and ShortMail only, it really leaves me limited..I like the 4920's size, and I must be the only one, but, I prefer the 4920's voice quality over the 4900, and even the 4930! But the 4920 can't be forced into 800MHz CDMA...the 4930 can....so, decisions, decisions... I really need to narrow it down to one model....what would you all choose?

For me it would be no question - I've seen low use and even NIB old stock 4930s on eBay... The 4930 would be what I carried now if I (1) could actually use it on my plan and (2) if it could use Sprint Nav.

The 4930 is a brutally honest little phone - and a good looker, to. (Even the marking on the buttons being hidden behind clear plastic so they can't wear off is a plus.)

I know what you mean. Those old Sanyos were built like tanks back in the day. I currently use a Sanyo MM-9000 in ESPN MVP housing. I can't even think of another phone I'd rather have.

Just to give you an idea of Sanyo durability, I took an old Sanyo MM-5600 I had that I couldn't use and put it through hell to see what it would withstand. I ran it over with my truck 8 times, and the darn thing could still turn on! And it only had a couple scratches here and there.

Wow! yeah, I can believe that! You would think other phone makers would take note....Yeah, Sanyo's are sure built for durablilty. I had a Katana for almost 2 years, and that was one of the most solid flip phones I've ever used, and I don't like flip phones that much..

Yeah I have two MM7500's that are backups for when any of the 6 lines that I have crap out or get lost/damaged. They get alot of use and always work!

Yeah, I have two old Sanyo "back-ups" to use in case any of my more "modern" handsets pack it in. I've had to use them twice so far when newer phones failed...

I still have my 4930 as a back up, this has been the best phone I've had on sprint. Sanyo needs to use the 4930 as a foot print when making new phones.

Probably dropped that phone 100 times and still kept going.

I'm back on the M1 of course. I really hope Sanyo comes out with something else in the rugged series soon.

hmmm...I wouldn't mind giving an M1 a try....yeah, I agree the 4930 is a VERY solid phone...I like the 4920 a lot too simply becasue of it's size. Though, the 4920 has a more slick surface, so it's easy to drop....but, put it in a case, and it's perfect....

I'm going back to my 4900 too. I picked up the 2700 yesterday and there's just no signal. Got 5 bars - inside my house - with the 4900, and I live out in the boonies!
I picked up another 4900 on eBay yesterday after mine bit the dust (port that charger plugs into is damaged, won't charge the phone) and I think I'll pick up a 4930 too after reading your rave reviews here.
