Is there a charge for incoming international text messages

Guys, I just noticed sprint has been charging me $0.20 per international text messaging (both incoming and outgoing). I can understand them charging me for sending, but why also charge for receiving when i already have a text messaging plan on my account. I mean you dont get charged for receiving an international call right? so why this? Somebody help. My bill is adding up fast!

I don't really have control what medium is used to contact me. As you know, not every cell phone as the capability to send email. I cant really tell my friend to stop contacting me.

I assume people who do not have a text plan feel the same way but they are charged by the text as well.

Thumbs down texting international

I am also getting hit with .20 text charges to and from Canada. I have unlimited text and data with an Instinct. Sprint has NO plan to add on for canada or a n. america plan. My son has a telus phone with free international texting but Sprint can't have the same thing! I have to pay on my end to send and receive messages. He doesn't have data so he cant email so I have to pay the .20 on top of my bill!
Sprint should really get a program at least as an add on. It does add up real quick!

It sure does add up. Even MetroPCS has an unlt int. text plan. I emailed ecare and i got the following.

Thank you for your reply. I am sorry for the inconvenience you may have
experienced.

I have checked your account and it shows that 1000 Two-Way Text
Messaging is active on the account. However, the charge for the
International Text message is $0.20/msg. These message are charged at
the standard rate.

If you have the text messaging pack active on the account, still your
account will be charged for International text message.

In case of the International call rate, sprint offer the International
calling pack which reduced the International call cost. However, we do
not offer the International text pack as such as of now. I am sorry for
the inconvenience you may have due to this.

Thank you again for contacting Sprint. We appreciate your business.

Sincerely,
Steve C.

I am not for sure, but if the other party sent you a text message to:

xxxxxxxxxx@messaging.sprintpcs.com

where the xxx's represent your 10 digit phone number, neither of you should incur int'l text rates.

Or if that does not work, have him/her text message you at an email address that is registered on your blackberry. That way you will receive it as a email, eliminating sprint charging you for int'l texts.

Can international text message, send and/or receive be blocked? What if you get spammed by an international number?

Wow! That really sucks! I didn't know that Sprint charged international rates for INCOMING messages (even though you have a messaging plan)!

I know that for T-mobile (and I think AT&T) if you're in a foreign country and receive incoming text/picture/video messages, it just comes out of your messaging plan (if you have one) and does NOT cost anything extra to receive! (But of course if you don't have a messaging plan, then it will cost a certain international rate per text message... which is fair IMO.)

Outgoing on both T-Mobile and AT&T is charged at an international rate.
