I wanted to contribute to this forum since it's been relatively helpful to me.
If you don't mind using video ringtones for the Rant, this is a way you can get ringtones without internet. 1) Using the appropriate programs on computer, obtain your mp3 (15-30 s) snippets that you'd like for a ringtone. 2) Using some type of converter, convert this snippets into .3g2 files. (I think the size limit is 512 kb). 3) Using your rant, record a quick video. This should create in the DCIM folder, another folder starting with 100. 4) Using the usb, transfer your files (should end in .3g2) into this 100 folder. 5) When you want to set these as ringtones, go into your My Videos folders, these files should appear as big Xs. You'll have to listen to them to figure out which file is which, but the files will play when you set them for your ringers, the name of the file will appear as the ringer name. Hope this helps! It's been working great for me. |

Must be doing something wrong....
I have tried to get the ringtones to work, as you have written, but no joy,8>(
I have also tried the sites that say they can create them for you, & you just have to pay the download fee to sprint (my family plan has text+ but no internet, for the 4 rants we got yesterday). They say that it is not an acceptable format & wont even download them ( I tried MP4, MP3, & QCP..which I was told is the format of choice...???? ![]() Oh well, no more Rodeo song...at least for now.

Hi, I've tried your method and it works great for incoming calls and for contacts, but I would like to know how I can get those customized ringtones to work for incoming texting : (

Thanks Sakura, this method works great for those that have no internet access and want ringtones on their rant phone.
My only problem is that when I convert my mp3 file to a 3g2 file the quality goes down quite considerably. I found a program online called SUPER that I'm using to convert my files. Is there something I can do or is it natural for the quality to go down when converting from mp3 to 3g2? If anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks. |

Use Cool Edit Pro clip it down to the section of song u want, click the "effects"
and go Effects > Filters > Graphic Equalizer > scroll all the way to the bottom of the Presets, and use "Vocal Presence (Boost)" It makes the vocals cleaner, and reduces the music so you won't blow your phone speaker.

I transferred via bluetooth from my Q9c to a friend's RANT, and works great.

I used goldwave (software) to trim down the mp3s and then i used total video converter to convert them to .3g2 files. After that i just put them on the sd card.

Anyone have any advice for this?
I have two .3g2 files on my Rant, and they each play if I browse to them in my videos. I have assigned one to be my default ringer, but when I try and assign the second to a specific contact, it says "Assigned this video to voice call" and then does not play anything when that contact calls - it's just silent. I can assign the second file as my default ringer, so it seems like I can only have one .3g2 ringtone active at all times... Thanks |

I had this problem to begin with, but after some experimentation I realized that it is doing this because the sample rate at which you have chosen for your audio is greater than 16000 KHz. So, check to see that when you are converting your file to a .3g2 file it is not at any value greater than 16000. The problem with this is that the sound quality drops enormously when you lower the sample rate. So far I can't find a way around this. |

Nah, I lied. You can't have spaces in your file name. That's it. Solves every problem haha
