A co-worker of mine is updating his Q9c right now off the Moto site. I don't know what's included in it but I'm willing to bet that WinMo 6.1 is gonna be on his phone after the update is done.

Sprint posts Windows Mobile 6.1 update for Motorola Q9c
![]() That's right, lucky Q9c owners on Sprint are among the very first in the world to get an official Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade. Feels good, doesn't it? Bask in the copy / paste functionality, threaded SMS, and Getting Started guide (which contains probably little to no information you didn't already know, you experienced user, you) while your friends are all still stuck at 6.0. Be sure to play it up; flash the messaging application at every opportunity in public situations, and just generally make them feel bad for having chosen a [insert device here] over your beloved Moto. It's okay to gloat a little at times like this, trust us. http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/0...-motorola-q9c/

The Touch can take a short break while I try out 6.1 on the Q9c until 6.1 officially releases for the Touch than the Q9c gets benched again...LOLX2

Does this erase your contacts? Does it erase existing text messages?

Yes, so please utilize ActiveSync to back up your contacts, appointments, task's etc. Text messages are un-recoverable. Your best bet would be to copy the text, paste it to an email, and send yourself the email. Or paste it to your MEMO's and configure ActiveSync to sync your Memo pad as well.

Just take your time and don't panic. If there's install instructions on Moto's page, which I'm sure there is, read those thoroughly and then go at it! It's not hard at all

Back-Up for Phone before Update
Bunch of you already know about Dashwire so I'll keep this short.
Upgrade process will wipe your data. Looks like Motorola offers basic PIM backup as a part of the upgrade process. Not sure what it covers, but if you can hold off on the upgrade for a bit, Dashwire is free and can help you backup your contacts, text messages, contacts, photos, videos, calls, phone settings, etc. It can also help you restore contacts and some of you phone settings as well. Check it out: http://dashwire.com Have fun with the upgrade... hit me up if you have questions

I just finished updating my Q9c and it didn't take half the time that the Motorola update software said it would. My guess is they just go by how long it takes with the minimum hardware on the PC side of things.
One thing I think I will miss, at least on the "Sliding Panels" home screen is having my applications there ready to run from the home screen. However, for all the other stuff that comes with WM 6.1 I'll take the hit. The basic backup of information that the Moto software provides did a good job of keeping my themes, sounds, ringtones, music, contacts, and schedules. I did a backup with Sprite right before running the update but I think I'll take this opportunity to "trim" down the number of applications that I keep on my phone. |

I upgraded my phone but my home screen still looks the same. Mine doesn't look like the ones pictured. Is it in the settings somewhere?
