Text Messaging - work in Argentina & Chile???

I searched, couldn't find a specific answer.

I'm leaving Sunday for Chile & Argentia. Even though I have a Blackberry 8830 (which works great in Europe & even China)... Sprint Intl Roaming Dept says it will "NOT" work for BB email or any type of data roaming in Chile or Argentina (although Voice will work fine) as the GSM networks supported there are 1900 & the 8830 supports only 900/1800 GSM.

To make matters worse, they're saying that even Text Messages to me in Argentina or if I try to send one back to the US will not work???

Before I borrow/buy a GSM phone & a local sim card so I can at least send/receive text messages I thought I'd ask the "worldly" crew here what your experience has been when you've traveled to Argentina/Chile???

/BD

why don't you just use the local SIM card, and text message through that account?

I could put an argentina sim in my 8830, problem is the 8830 only supports 900/1800 gsm and argentina is 1900 gsm (as in the usa) ???
