OFFICIAL LG MUZIQ Ringtone Transfer Tutorial Using Bitpim

STEP ONE: DOWNLOAD BITPIM AND LG USB MODEM DRIVERS

Go to:
http://us.lge.com/download/product/f...er_Ver_4.1.exe for the LG USB Modem driver for the MUZIQ phone. Install the drivers and connect the phone using the USB cable. Note: Do not select anything when the USB screen pops up. Just exit out and let the phone sit, it should already say :USB CONNECTED"

Now you need to download BitPim. Go to http://www.bitpim.org/help/ and download the newest version of BitPim.

STEP TWO: CREATE A MELODY FILE

On your phone, go to the melody composer (tools --> music composer --> compose melody) Length/title does not matter, as we are going to overwrite the file anyways. I find it easy to (Compose Melody --> Keyboard Mode. Just use Keyboard Mode and hit one note)

STEP THREE: OVERWRITING MELODY

Now open BitPim and select (Edit --> Detect Phone). It should say on the bottom of the screen somewhere "Other CDMA Phone on COM PORT 7", for example. (This doesn't mean it is supposed to be on 7). Now go to the view tab and select "View Filesystem." Go to the filesystem on the left controlbar and then find the folder "melodyComposer." Find the melody you just created, there will be two files. Select the file with the suffix of ".mid" and right click. Go to "Overwrite ... " and find the mp3 you want to replace it with. And there you go! We have a new mp3 ringer in place of that garbage melody (this may take some time to replace, depending on the filesize).

As a test, select the melody and play it, it'll sound the same. Then apply the melody as a ringer and you're done.

Terrific writeup. Easy to follow and so much easier than using myJAL on my old Nextels...

Word of advice... Save the mp3 as a 96kbps file, and chop it to 30 seconds using something like Soundforge. After 30 seconds it goes right to Vmail anyway, so, it works better that way. Also, saves room on the phone for more ringtones!

Also, a nice freeware that is great at editing mp3's is Audacity. you can chop up, change freq, slow down, speed up, all the great stuff. www.audacity.com.

But you can still overwrite the melodies with mp3's you want as ringtones though right?
