How to get your MSL number from your A900M
Want your MSL number?
Dont want to call Sprint? Want to use your A900M as a modem? Here are some directions on how to get your MSL number, and how to enable DUN over Bluetooth. 1) Download the demo version of "CDMA Workshop" from here. 2) Connect your A900M to the PC with the provided USB cable. DO NOT ENTER PC CONNECT MODE. 3) Launch CDMA Workshop. 4) Set the COM settings for AT Mode as follows, Then press the Connect button: 5) Click the QCDM button... If all the information for your phone registers on the left... Then move on to the Security tab. 6) Set the SPC to 'Universal, EFS Method'. 7) At the popup set the type to 'nvm/nvm/nvm_security' 8) Now, if everything has gone well, you should only have to click 'READ'. There should be a popup something like this: Now... You have your MSL number. 9) Shutdown the CDMA Workshop, and disconnect your phone from the PC. 10) Go to the Menu -> Settings -> Display -> Press 0 on the keypad. 11) In the Field Serv menu... Enter your MSL number. 12) In this menu go to Toggle NAI, and toggle NAI Modem off. 13) Exit this menu, and immediately reboot your phone. __________________________________________________ _____________________ Thats it, all done. Now you can use your A900M (and other modern Samsung phones) as a modem. Hope that this is help to some. ~Wyre Last edited by WyreTheWolf; 03-27-2007 at 08:26 AM. |

Not sure why your phones connection would be COM5.
A modem could use COM3... but then what is filling COM4. Well, it could be a couple of things. When in the MAIN tab, and you clicked the connect button. Did it say that you had successfully connected? When you clicked the QCDM button after connecting... Did the left hand side of the program window register your phone? The only other thing that I can think of is to make sure that your phone is NOT in the PC Connect mode. |

yea, it connected and all data showed on the left. only problem i'm having is that when i set it to EFS, no popup comes up. it only comes up after i hit READ on SPC. then when i hit ok on the popup, it freezes for a sec then says Failed.
edit: when i tried nvm_0000, it gave me the security code box but with only ................. the nvm_security fails everytime. and should my phone be showing a phone's screen with OFFLINE MODE on it? Last edited by Naota; 03-28-2007 at 12:51 PM. |

You know that when you connect your phone to your PC using the USB cable... and you have to go into MASS STORAGE, and then Click Connect to PC?
Just dont do that. Connect the phone. and do nothing else. Now, are you trying to do this with an A900, or the A900M? |

i havent been putting it into MASS STORAGE mode. it is an A900M. for some reason when i hit READ after selecting EFS it disconnects the phone and then the phone goes into OFFLINE mode. i'm thinking maybe its the cdma modem driver kicking in which i'm gonna install because i dont use the phone as a modem. i'm just trying to unlock the phone's GPS so that MGMaps will work.
edit: GOT IT TO WORK!!! i uninstalled/reinstalled the usb drivers and everything went smoothly this time around. not sure if anyone else has this problem but it seems i have to reinstall these drivers weekly or else i lose connectivity of some sort with the phone randomly. THANKS A MILLION MAN!! Sprint refused to give me the MSL 5 times in the last few days! Last edited by Naota; 03-28-2007 at 02:05 PM. |

AH! So it was a driver issue. Glad that it helped you out a bit.

I just bought the A900m and am trying to get the phone to function as a modem. Below is the steps I have taken:
1. Download Samsung USB Composite driver and install. 2. Restart computer. 3. Plug UBS into phone and computer. 4. Windows XP(sp2) detected the phone and install the drivers and indicates it is functioning properly. 5. Download and install CDMA Workshop. It is at this point I'm having the most trouble. The program claims to be connected to just about any port I select and yet when I hit the "QCDM" button, it returns a "Failed - Phone does not answer" message. There is no information populated on the left column. I am using the original cable that was included with the phone from Sprint and do not have it in "connect to PC" mode.(although for a test, I did check to see if the computer would recognize the phone through the cable using "connect to pc",which it did successfully however I turned it off and disconnected and reconnected the phone) Do I need a different cable? Is there something I am not doing or doing something wrong? Thanks!! |

OK, I got the MSL number. set the NAI to off. I had to assign a com number to it. Now my next issue is I am getting a 698 error(there was a hardware failure in the modem) when I attempt to dial.
any suggestions?? Thanks!!! |

1. Make sure the modem is using correct drivers for the computer's operating system (most likely NT). Try reinstalling the modem.
2. Make sure that the files PAD.INF, MODEM.INF, and SWITCH.INF in C:\SYSTEM32\RAS are not marked as read-only and the currently logged on user does have write permissions. 3. Reinstall RAS/DUN. http://www.modemhelp.net/dunerror/error_698.shtml http://www.modemhelp.net/dunerror/dunerrorcodes.shtml I have not personally run into that error... However ModemHelp.net may be able to help |

Thanks!!
I am not quite sure what happened but about an hour ago, I pluged in the phone and a message displayed"handset had been set to modem. Data services will not be available......" and it connected. I didn't change any thing. I simply unplugged it(for the umpteen time) rebooted it(again for the umpteen time) then pluged it in and bingo, connection!!!!! My new concern is that I may be charged. I verified that the NAI is turned off as well as the other setting(DDFT, I think). So according to the majority, there won;t be any charges. I ran a test listed on Cnet showing 208K. Not bad especially since will only use it for emails and mild surfing. I know there is a setting in Windows that will allow for greater transfer speeds. Can you tell me where that setting would be. Thank you for your help!! Cheers!!

Alright I'm having a little problem. I have the A900m I plug it in with the USB and it says connected as modem. I launch the CDMA Workshop and proceed to step 4) Set the COM settings for AT Mode as follows, Then press the Connect button: when I do this it says: failed com 3 port does not exist. Also everything under phone information is blank. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to set up a com 3 port? If so, can someone please walk me through it. I'm not even sure what a com 3 port is.
