Something to Consider: Get Curve Now or Wait for 9000?

So from reading over on Crackberry.com about the hype of the yet to be released 9000, I started thinking...

I have yet to be a BB user for the first time. I am eligible for $75 off upgrade come June 1st. Only 1 year into my 2 year contract. I am seriously considering getting the Curve sometime in June or soon after.

But, after seeing the hype with the 9000 and the guy that bought one on Crackberry.com, it seems to already be the succeeding hype to the Curve.

So.... should I go ahead and get the Curve this year or wait for the 9000? We have no idea when the 9000 will be released, could be as early as this fall or winter, or maybe not till 2009? I'm sure it's probably in testing right now and won't be released anytime soon. So is it worth waiting for or should I just go ahead and have the Curve be my first BB?!

Oh and just FYI, it doesn't really matter to me when I upgrade, I can afford it now cause I would use my part of my tax stimulus check to get the Curve. Come next year I'll have extra income to spend when I pay my car off so this time next year I could afford to buy a phone, if the 9000 where not to come out till a year from now.

so far the 9000 is only going to be released on gsm. and it to a year for the curve to be on a cdma network so do you really want to wait that long?

Hmm, great point. So the 9000 won't be released on Sprint till after it's on GSM with AT&T first? Okay. Yeah I probably wouldn't want to wait. Might just go for the curve now then.

Honestly, Blackberries on CDMA are kinda of a wait and see thing... It generally takes forever for them to be released. Truly said

While it's obviously a matter of personal choice, what is most appealing about the 9000 for you? From posted pics, it doesn't appear to be much thinner than the Curve (if at all), and goes back to the 88XX style keyboard, albeit with slightly raised keys. The improvements seem to mainly be the larger display and of course, OS 4.6. Okay, I just re-read Kevin's updated review and, yes the 9000 is packed with awesome features. How many (if any ) of those will be added w/ OS 4.5 update for Curve, etc. is anyone's guess. But,given Sprint's recent track record with BB launches,I would be suprised if they released it before 2010. You could sign a 2yr contract and be out of it before they acually had it for sale.

I've owned the AT&T Curve (original 8300) and really liked it. So rather than wait for a device that you haven't seen or used yet, you can try out the Curve at a store, figure out if it's going to meet your needs, then purchase it. I agree with other posters, too, that the 9000 is so far off for VZW and Sprint, that unless you're infinitely patient, will be kind of rough to get.

Have to believe that Sprint will not be anxious to release the Bold anytime soon after all this work to get the Curve out.

Is the name "Bold" for sure? Everything I read suggests it's only rumor.

Nah, it's not for sure. Just what some folks are calling it. We'll know for sure when the press release comes out very shortly.

Waiting for phones never pays off, you end up spending life doing just that, WAITING.
I would go ahead and get the phone you want and then when a new one works out call sprint and tell them you are gonna jump ship since you want that new phone but they wont give you new customer price.

The math works in your favor. The ETF is $200, they are gonna charge you about that much extra for the phone that they are selling to new customers way cheaper.

The competitors have it just as cheap, they can't hold your number hostage. They will usually sell you the phone for 2 year price as long as you make a case they are gonna lose a customer.

Thanks everyone... I have to agree with you all. I'll just go ahead and get the Curve. Not worth sitting around wondering when the 9000 will come out, it's obvious it's fresh off the press and in testing only. I'll make the Curve my first BB and be happy! Can't wait for June!

While we're all celebrating getting our Curves today, the rest of the world is celebrating the release of the Bold (BB 9000) that was just announced this morning. It's funny and sad at the same time, but I guess it's symbolic of CDMA carriers in general and Sprint in particular when it comes to BlackBerry devices. Of course AT&T will be the only carrier to offer the Bold, at first anyways.

Yeah everyone on here is saying it won't be released to CDMA carriers for a long time so I don't need to think about waiting, I'm getting the Curve!
