Question about ESN...

is there anyway I can use the ESN off my Sanyo 5300 on my new 8200... I got the 8200 at a garage sale, it turns out it was stolen... (I called the owner since there number was in the phone book and they said thanks but they had insurance on it). Anyways, I was wondering if I can just use the ESN off my 5300 on the 8200 and get my number and stuff on it.

Go back to the garage you got it from and get your money back.

There is no possible way to do this. One thing I can recommend is taking it to Sprint and turning it in for one of those credit things that they will credit your account for trading in the phone.

That would be a correct assessment.

*ALWAYS* check with Sprint that the ESN is clear before you buy.

i dont think you would get into trouble since you bought it without knowing it was stolen. and if you take it to the store just give them all the info of where you bought it...

its not a high dollar item and it would cost a lot more to prosecute you than it does to replace the cell phone....

or just give it to a toddler as a toy or something...
what other uses are there for useless phones?

just my $.02

At work we recommend that customers give their old phones to the women's shelter. No matter what, they will always dial 911 and they are given to women in at risk situations. Or you can donate it to the local National Guard Armory and it can be sent overseas for troops to use.

There IS a way to take two phones that operate on the Sprint network and switch the ESN. The guy who runs SprintPCSInfo.com successfully made a Kyocera Slider that was originally a Virgin Mobile phone work on Sprint.

His handle is hatoncat. Go to the site and ask him. I'm sure it's pretty difficult, and I would be willing to bet it involves changing out Qualcomm chips or something. But at least you wouldn't have to worry about screwing with the PRL file.

Good luck with it.

Users around here call him Hatoncrack. He was asked to leave here.

Take what he says with a grain assault.

That guy is more knowledgeable about Sprint than 99% of the users on this forum. I'm not saying anything bad about members of this forum, but that guy has some connections. He consistently breaks stories before any other sites.

Furthermore, he sold the phone on EBay along with the phone he gutted to get the ESN.

By the way, I hope you were joking about the grain "assault." Either way, it was good.
