:( Screen Spiderwebbed
Well, the last 36 hours with my Pre was great, and I was just getting to know "her".
Took her out of my front pocket 30 minutes ago, only to find the screen cracked - about 10 lines running up from the button through the entire screen to the top, like a fan. I have no idea how it happened. The only thing I can think that happen was my leg pressed up against the metal arm of a chair I was sitting in, but I find it hard to imagine there was that much pressure. I'm sick to my stomach. The display still works fine, but the touch is messed up. Most of the bottom of the touch is dead, and the center of the screen keeps "pressing" itself about every 2 seconds. I can't even answer a call because I can't slide the green button up. Luckily I added on TEP when I bought the phone, and I guess I'll see how that works out tomorrow.

Pretty hard to get a picture, it's hard to see it even with your eyes. Here are a couple that I could get with my Centro - there are about twice as many lines as you can see here

Anyone know if Assurion is the only way to get anything done with this? Or is ESRP possible?

Looks like I'm not the only one with what seems to be exactly this same problem. 2 people so far on precentral forums and another on palm.com forums describe exactly the same thing. One person on precentral has the same story I do - pants pocket and suddenly it was cracked, for apparently no reason.
Guy on palm.com forum says he was pressing center button and the screen cracked - and that is exactly what this crack look like - it comes right from the button. I'm wondering if mine cracked earlier from pressing the button - and then spread until I finally saw it. |

If there's a weak point around the button it has a design flaw. This is really sounding like too fragile of a phone. Last edited by Noseeums; 06-07-2009 at 10:24 PM. |

Obviously, the center button it not attached to the screen. Exactly what part of my story is bogus? No matter, in the end the TEP will cover, so I have no reason to make anything up.

Isn't the deductible only for water damage or lost phone (ie the insurance portion of TEP)?
Otherwise, TEP is supposed to repair the phone (ie the warranty portion of TEP) and if they can't fix it, give you a new one. Also you are supposed to be able to add TEP within the first 30days of getting the new phone. |
