It absolutely was designed to go against high end smartphones. They just couldn't escape the FUD.

I consider myself to be quite a phone geek and my research/knowledge led me to buy a Moto X for my wife. Literally the only reason why I don't own one myself is because you couldn't get a 32 GB version on launch at Sprint. Didn't even care all that much about motomaker - I probably would have gotten black So then of course Nexus 5 launched soon after 32 GB was finally available and I just had to own a Nexus once in my life.

A coworker of mine who is probably the biggest tech nerd I have ever met in person or "known" online owns a Moto X.

It competes with the high end except for in the meaningless specs.


The masses bought late model P4s instead of AMDs and they were wrong. The Moto X is ~2004 AMD but people just won't accept that.
