Kindle Fire vs Nook
I use Amazon for purchases but I am not a Prime member.
My mother keeps buying Me Barnes & Nobles gift cards. I am debating in using the cards I have saved to purchase a Nook. Or would I be more satisfied with the KF? What are the main differences between the two? I already have a tablet that does the basics, do I even need another one? Should I just wait for the next generation of equipment and when is that supposed to be? |

YPG.. are you a student or mother? if so you can sign up for amazon prime for a few months for free. I used a old .edu email to set up a student prime account for 12 months.. and got to renew it for 39 bucks.
anyways, since you already have a tablet (which one?).. then if ur just using the fire or nook to read.. then just get a nook (or nook color). heres a article that explains them both: http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/18/k...-tablet-fight/ but if you can wait a bit (late June), wait for the Google Tablet mentioned in the other thread. forgive me if this is the same stuff Brett mentioned. I didnt read his reply |

If your happy with the current tablet, sell the gift cards for money online I.e. grannycards or eBay, etc, or save them and buy the new book color that will be out soon.
I have both, and they both have their pros & cons (one is a bit faster, one has sd card slot, etc), and can be rooted pretty easily to obtain full market or overclocked if needed - decent tablets, my $.02. _(―`·._( My Ice Cream Is Better Than Yours )_.·΄―)_

Personally, I wouldn't buy either one to use as a tablet. If I had to choose, though, it would be the Kindle Fire, hands down. I like the way it looks more than the Nook, and I definitely like the Amazon ecosystem better than the B&N one.
My choice would be some other 7" tablet (preferably with development support...I goofed up on that one and got a View), and just put the eBook apps on there for when I need to read. |

Forgot to note: if you go with waiting it out, wait for B&N to publish their refurbished new book color tablet on their eBay store (you can email them and ask if you can pay with B&N gift cards) - you'll get good pricing, warranty & basically brand new in the box item.

Here is an article on the comparison:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2395979,00.asp I have the Nook Color and I rooted it into a tablet. However, I have the amazon app on my nook and it works fine.

I love my Kindle Fire, I use it almost daily, bought I also got $175 in Amazon gift cards for my birthday so that made the decision easy. I didn't want an Android table that was just a bigger version of my Android phone so I liked the Amazon UI.
Ultimately it depends on what you want to do with it... I was looking for something with useful apps, the ability to read books, stream some media such as movies or music and surf the web. I also am heavily invested in the Amazon ecosystem and have lots of apps from the Amazon App Store on my phone that I'd gotten for free or cheaply, so, having multiple apps that play well on both my phone and the KF are nice for me. But, there is a limit to the apps you can use if you don't root (I don't have time for that nor do I want to void my warranty at this point), so my hope to use it for a few work applications have not come to be but perhaps in the future. I think you'll be fine whichever way you go.

I wouldn't mind switching to that; I still have the 1st Gen Nook (or well, the one without the 3G sync.) I hope you enjoy it!
