Setting time zone
We've got two iPhones in the house. One has Chicago set as the time zone and the "Set Automatically" switch set to on. My 4S has Denver in Time Zone when I turn "Set Automatically" on. If I enter Chicago for the time zone and move the Set Automatic to on, it bounces back to Denver. It looks like I'm forced to live in Mountain Standard Time, even though I'm outside of Minneapolis which is CST.
Any one know how to set the Time Zone? |

Is my phone smarter than I, or is that me? Would my phone know?
Well, I found a rather annoying way to do it, but one without very much control. Turn the phone completely off for a few minutes and then back on. That set the time zone and turned on "set automatically". Of course, some of the more anal amongst us can, I suppose, turn off the automatic setting and set the bloody thing to whatever time zone they want. However, as soon as they have to turn it OFF in compliance with FAA regulations, since flight mode is no longer acceptable, when they turn the phone back on, they will then have to remember to reset their "anality" to control the time zone to which the 4S is set.
Personally, since I prefer to know the time whence I am, as opposed the time whence I come, I doubt I'll ever set the bloody thing again. Last edited by Gary G. Little; 03-12-2012 at 07:27 AM. |

My phone did something similar and it ended up that my location services was not getting a signal from above. Once out of the house it fixed itself and all is good.

That might have been the problem, though the phones were only separated by about 30'. Ain't RF wonderful?

If one can see the sky and the other doesn't, I guess it defaults to the closest time zone? I have no idea, but it works fine now.
