Get an Airave if it is available to you for "in building" signal issues.

Sprint tech support or retentions can typically offer you the device for free, waive the monthly charges, so all you pay are the taxes and fee's on the "line of service" the airave works on. Maybe $3 a month, but far less expensive and keeps you on Sprint.

The palm Treo can get a PRL update "over the air" by having the rep "flag" the line for an update, calling *2 with that line and following the prompts where it will typically say "at Sprint, we have recognized a free update is needed............"

Getting a 4G device will no nothing to help you with your call quality. Go for an airave if you have some form of high speed internet (cable modem or DSL type, not an aircard) available to you.

I would also highly recommend this if you have either Cable or DSL-based internet in your home.

Just a few caveats:

1. if you use EVDO services on your phones at home, it won't help with that, except to say that you could use 1x services over the Airave. Better is to use wifi while at home if your phones support doing so.

2. With Airave, you will have problems if you are talking on your phone when you come home and attempt to continue the call into the house. You'll need to hang up and call back once connected to your Airave. Of course, you may already be experiencing this problem anyway, so no biggie if so.

If you have a good credit history with Sprint (pay bills on time, been a customer for at least a year), you should be able to ask for a free Airave and a waiving of the monthly fee of $4.95. Some have reported having to resign at least one of their lines to a 2-year contract from the date of being given the Airave, in order to get it for free. Not a bad commitment, IMHO.

A PRL update has NOTHING to do with poor reception of the Sprint signal. The only thing that a PRL update will do is to allow you to roam on more non-sprint cell towers such as Verizon or Alltel. I wish these Bozos at Sprint would stop BSing the customers that PRL updates will solve signal problems.

When I called the only tech support number we've been given all they say is it's been handed off to the network group. So the saga goes...

I can hope that they are doing the signal strength measurements and will get back to us, but that's been my main concern... I'm not really sure what checkpoint I'm waiting for at this point.
