I had the same question a month ago. Here is the reply from Sprint:

Dear (my full name),

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, if your return the handset under 30 days exchange period, then you
will still be eligible for old upgrade your account was eligible for.
You can contact the point of purchase and return your Palm Pre phone.
It will take 1 to 2 billing cycle for the credit to be applied on hour
account once we receive the phone at our warehouse. You can then
contact the telesales and get your upgrade eligibility reset to old one
and can order the HTC Touch Pro2 when Sprint start to offer that phone.
Please contact telesales at 800-777-4681.

Thank you again for contacting Sprint. We appreciate your business with
us.

Sincerely,
Stephen G.

If you are in fact open to a slider and are heavily reliant on Outlook, you'd be far better off with the Touch Pro 2 than an Android device.

That's true. But an extra $200.00 is a big turn-off.

I got my TP2 for $199 after MIR. They gave me a $150 service credit to pricematch other carriers. It's quite doable.
