Best available phone for SERO customers
I know everyone is going to scream TP2 and you are probably right. If you take the TP2 out of the equation based simply on outragous price what would be the next logical choice?
I have a Centro now and I'm elligible for an upgrade. I'd been trying like mad to get the TP2 for $199 with no luck. So I'm rethinking my strategy. I know the days of hot phone upagrades on SERO are numbered. I don't think they will ever allow an Android device on SERO and I'm not even convinced that any WebOS phones will be available either (Pixi). I want a smartphone, preferably one with a decent browser (Anythings better than blazer), good screen size, and access to a decent app collection. Looking at sprints current line of phones I don't really see anything other than the TP2 that fits the bill. If the intrepid had a nicer screen I'd go with it. But 320x240 is too small. Some of the BB's are nice but I don't think they'll work on SERO. Looking at upcoming phones I don't really see anything on the horizon with the exception of the Diamond 2 but I'm not convinved it's even coming to sprint. And talk about the HD2 is just that. Even if it did come to Sprint no way in hell it will be allowed on SERO. I don't care if it's running WinMO or not. Way too high profile to be allowed on SERO. I want to ultimately get at least another 2 years out of my SERO plan. I guess just about anything out there would be better than my Centro. But if it's not a significant upgrade I probably shouldn't bother. I wish the Diamond 2 would come to Sprint and be price under $200. I'd be all over it. But I can't force myself to pay $350 for the TP2. Any suggestions?

Blackberry's will work just fine on SERO with one caveate. You will either need to sweet talk a rep into giving you BIS for free or you will need to pay $10 for it. If you get it for free you will lose your unlimited messaging. With Opera Mini and Bolt BB's can make a decent browsing experience.
Take out the TP2 and BB's then the next in line would be the Treo Pro. It is pretty similar to the Intrepid but has a bit better resolution at 320x320. Honestly I would probably just wait for a price drop on the TP2.

I was told the Blackberries work on SERO just fine. There are only 3 phones in Sprint's lineup that you can't get on SERO - the Pre, the Hero, and one other one (can't remember). None of them were Blackberries.

The reason I listed blackberries is because in order to get one to work on SERO without increasing my cost would involve haggling with customer service in order to get free BIS. This would probably end up just like my futile atempts to get the TP2. So for my own peace of mind I'll leave blackberry out of the discussion.
Do you really think the Treo Pro's bigger screen would be enough to put it ahead of the intrepid? Even with the Intrepid running WinMo 6.5?

My personal distaste for WinMo makes my choices much more "streamlined". A BlackBerry with a $10 bolt-on for BIS is an extremely good deal. The browser is better than Blazer, but not as good as everything else. Luckily there are 3rd-party browsers like Opera Mini and Bold. As for the screen size, that would be a sticking point for you.

I'm in the same boat as the OP. I'm really not looking forward to windows mobile, but my palm centro is grating on me. TP2 is not an option because of cost. I also don't want a phone that has the same acronym as toilet paper. It's just not cool.
Anyone switch from a centro to an intrepid? How is WM professional? I had an iPAQ back in the day that ran WM and there was nothing professional about it. As Brian Cooley once said, "It's like fisher price and hasbro got together and both had a hangover." It was hands down the worst operating system I have ever used. I hate to go over to the dark side, but sprint is ****blocking on all of the other operating systems. |

The Intrepid is a solid phone. It covers the bases and works well. How is WM? Well it depends on who you ask. My opinion is that is it woefully outdated and is well behind all the other mobile OS's out there. It's crash prone with very poor memory management. Although 6.5 improved the finger friendliness of it, it is still lacking there. Heck, it doesn't support capacitive screens for crying out loud. Long story short people are screaming for more Android phones for a reason, a lot are tired of WM. All that said a properly set-up WM phone can be a very reliable device, but it takes more effort than competing products. It also a ton, and I mean a ton, of apps available. Many of them are free but the downside is the vast majority you will need to go find on your own as the WM app store is still in its infancy.
