EVDO in Lubbock, TX? Nope.

This sucks for a city of over 200,000..

Dear ----,

Thank you for contacting Sprint. I will be happy to answer your
question regarding when EVDO coverage will be coming to your area.

I reviewed our coverage map and found that at this time there are not
any EVDO towers in your area. There are also no locations marked where
towers will be going up in the near future. An exact launch date of
Sprint EVDO services in Lubbock, Texas cannot be obtained. This is because
Sprint thoroughly tests the competence of coverage and network strength
before launching the services in a new area, and this process is
time-consuming.

When we will launch EVDO services in Lubbock, Texas, numerous
promotional offers and media will inform you about the changes.

Updated coverage areas are available at the following Sprint website:

http://www1.sprintpcs.com/explore/co...geOverview.jsp

If you know anyone that would like to lease their land and have a cell
tower put on it please refer them to the following link for complete
information and to fill out a sign up form.

To improve our network performance and coverage, we are enhancing the
network this year by taking the following steps:

1. Committing to a $2.1 billion capital-spending program, which
encompasses network expansion, improved network capacity and performance;
2. Signing up to add 1,700 new cell sites on air;
3. Embarking on a multi-year campaign to acquire and build additional
cell sites; and
4. Improving in-home, in-office and public venue coverage.

Thank you for choosing Sprint. We appreciate your business.

Thanks

I also wrote a letter to sprint reguarding EVDO in Lubbock. Got the same generic boxed reply except without the explanation about towers:

"An exact launch date of Sprint EVDO services in Lubbock, Texas cannot be obtained. This is because Sprint thoroughly tests the competence of coverage and network strength before..." blah blah blah.

This is rediculous. A 200,000+ city with a major college, and no hi speed cellular for sprint. They need to get off their hands and do a little work.

evdo data roaming worked beautifully everytime I go to lubbock for parties. yes lubbock is in an affiliate market that as I understand sprint bought out already. though evdo won't be available for a while still. too bad clearwire left the wimax koint venture, wouldve given lubbock wimax a lot quicker!!!!

Question Hopefully Soon

Well I've heard rumors for a while that 3g/EVDO would be in Lubbock soon (even though 4g is already here), but I went into the Sprint store yesterday and they were having data issues whenever you tried out any of the phones. Lots of customers were complaining too about dropped calls and intermittent data problems. The employee there said that the problem is from the upgrade - he said that they were currently working on upgrading all of the towers to EVDO and the problems had been happening for a few days... so hopefully it will be here soon???

Of course "Alltel" has EVDO out there. They're OWNED by Verizon! Even when they weren't "owned" by Verizon, they were still running off Verizon's network. Alltel is NO different than CRICKET! They are a THIRD party provider that somehow, someway got big and popular. Cricket is running off Sprints network. Eventually, Sprint will buy out Cricket. It's just a matter of time.
