Ghost Armor for Sprint Touch Pro Review

I'm currently a moderator here on the SprintUsers forum. When an admin of our site said someone from Ghost Armor wanted to supply us with a product sample in exchange for a review, I reluctantly decided to volunteer my 2-month old Touch Pro. I say reluctantly because I had never tried one of these body armor plastic things, so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect.

First Impressions

Inside the packaging for the Ghost Armor was a spray bottle of adhesive, a hard rubber squeege, a tube with the product rolled up, a sheet of installation instructions, and a postcard that shows their other products. I read over the instructions a few times to prepare myself. There are only 12 steps:

1. Power off device and remove battery
2. Wash hands thoroughly
3. Wipe down device to ensure the application area is free from dust.... blah blah
4. Peel the armor from the paper backing
5. Hold Ghost Armor solution spray 3-5 inches & dampen both sides of film
6. Quickly apply to device & align accordingly
7. If you dampen too much and it won't stay in place, simply apply pressue & hold until it does
8. Use squeegee to flatten the armor and push out all the bubbles and solution.
9. On small pieces, don't spray the armor directly, spray (or lick) your fingers instead
10. Repeat steps 6-9 if necessary to ensure proper alignment
11. Allow Armer to set & dry for 2 hours before you power your device on and use it
12. Although the phone is usable after 2 hours, allow up to 24 hours for the armor to reach it's optimal clarity

And of course the disclaimer about them not being responsible if you get your phone wet and it causes damage.

After reading that I felt a little intimidated. Maybe I'm being (as my girlfriend calls me) a drama queen, but I didn't want to mess up my phone, nor did I want to complicate or mess up what others make seem so simple.

Installation

So away we go! I wash my hands and I use a microfiber cleaning cloth (from my glasses) to clean the phone as best as I can. I removed the existing (stock) screen protector and clean off the screen more. Then I dive in! I opened the tube and took out the sheet which had all the films for various parts of the phone. I start off with the screen first. I sprayed the solution on both sides, then proceed to install. I got it on but some lint came on with me too, so I removed it after a few minutes (very carefully) then reapplied, freaking out the whole time. I used the squeegee to get the excess fluid out and to work out any air bubbles. Not bad. It looked cloudy and dirty, but I proceeded anyway. Next I put on the one for the buttons, the select button, and the back without any issues. The more challenging ones were the strips that go on the chrome pieces along the sides of the phone. It was hard to really find where they went until I lined the phone up with everything and said "this probably goes here". Once I did that it wasn't a big deal, except one of the strips runs a little over where the stylus goes in and out.

I let it sit for 2 hours before turning my phone back on. It didn't look too bad, but I still wasn't convinced. Many people said it doesn't look it's best until after about a day, so I reserved my judgement until then.

The next day the phone looked fabulous! You could barely tell it was on the phone! All the cloudiness & what seemed to be stuff from my fingers was gone! At this point I was impressed. After a few days I told my girlfriend and she didn't even notice the armor was on there until I told her, and had I not mentioned it she probably wouldn't have noticed.

Usability

The touchscreen (pressure-sensitive, not capacitive like the iPhone) seems to be only slightly less sensitive. Swipes on the phone require just a little more pressure than before, otherwise they get registered as taps. Also using the stylus and poking at things with your nail are a bit more challenging, as it seems to "get caught" on the armor.

Suggestions

The only thing I dislike about the armor is minor. I can feel the edges of the armor on the strips that go around the phone. If maybe the edges or borders of the armor were tapered a bit, then I wouldn't have that "sharp" feeling on it when I'm handling the device.

Conclusion

I'm sold! I've been recommending this to several people. It's something I'll definitely get on my phones from this point forward.

Thanks to GhostArmor for providing SprintUsers.com with a review unit!
