Exclamation Sprint Claims 5GB pt 2

I called Sprint back and spoke with AS. Uncross those fingers bc AS said these new changes will take place 7-17-08 and that it affects the current customers as well as new. They said to look on the 2nd page of ur bill and u will see the "changes" notice. the rep that I spoke with said that letters, emails and text messages were sent out to the ppl that were already exceeding the 5GB while on the Unlimited Data,PAM and Unlimited Powervision Plan w/PAM first and that the other customers should all be notified well b4 the 17th of next month.

She said that the 3cents a kilobyte WITH the plan is a typo, but does apply for overages AFTER exceeding the 5GB cap and overages are capped at $75 . Once the change takes place a text msg will be sent when u r nearing the cap and that ppl grossly exceeding will be terminated.
PAM will be discontinued. they want Internet users to use the Broadband Cards (59.99) and the new plans are to make it simpler for the customers by not having too many plan choices or feature exclusions and the Ultimate goal is for the Everything Plans to take over bc they will cut out the textandtalk overages and save CompanyandClient money and stress.

PAM is Granfathered in as well as my free incoming plan as long as no changes r made to my plan by me. (time will tell) Can hardly wait to see what happens come contract end
She checked my PAM and Broadband usage for the past few months and told me I never came close to exceeding the 5GB and that I shouldn't worry. I stopped using the card about 2 months ago but I did use it a lot and my highest usage was 4 GB. My highest PAM usage was 2 GB and I use it a lot as well... Its now my primary connection since the card.

5,242,880 kilobytes she said is the number to stay below (i'm at 1.5 million right now with 3 days left in my BillingCycle) I use PAM everyday for hours at a time so I guess the 5GB cap won't be so bad for ppl like me. I dont download movies or music and definitely wont now with the cap.

How much of this is true??? As I said earlier, Time Will Tell
just doing my SU duty

MISTRESS,

What's your average upload and download speeds when you're connected to the internet using your PAM plan?

Would you use it more if you got fairly fast broadband speeds like for example, 1500 kbps downloads and 500 kbps uploads bandwidth speeds?

Just did a test 1125dn 230up- it varies bc there are times when its 17-19 dn and low 300-high 4. The speed and price is one of the reasons I stopped using the card initially bc believe it or not sometimes the PAM speed was = to or higher than the card esp the dwnld speed. Didn't see the need to pay $60+tx when I can still do my thing for a lot less with the PAM
As far as using it more, I use it a lot NOW. Yesterday I was on from aroun 7am to after midnight and today since about 11am. I do a lot of work and play online which is why I had to get clarity on the cap vs my usage.

Is that $60 + $75 or $135? This is pathetic, since overage rate is at $30 per megabyte!!! So once you hit the 5gb cap for the $60 you get hit with another $75 for the next 2.5MB of use

Then what? Does the max $75 mean that it is unlimited after that or that after they fleece you for the $75 then terminate you?

If Sprint tries to stick me with overage charges on my capped unlimited plan, they can go suck a lemon. As another poster, if I have to live with my access being cut off, slowed down, or terminated, that's fine, but I ain't paying any overage charges. I got a few emails into ECare so I guess I'll ask them and see if I can get it in writing.

From how AS explained it to me it's 60+75 and then termination is very likely.
I personally am done with the Card. I'll keep PAM as long as they allow me to and who knows what after that. is an understatement

I pay for a primary internet connection. I have roadrunner at my house. I'm gone 3-4 weeks at a time, so I'm not there to use it. My neighbors use it more than I do. My broadband card is pretty much my primary internet connection, because my wifi router doesn't travel 2000 miles. This argument that Sprint intended these cards to be used by business travelers when they travel 2 days a month is really getting to be a lame and tired argument. Sprint also marketed this service as a broadband option for people who otherwise would have no other way to access it. They not only endorsed EVDO routers, they also sold them and encouraged their use. The argument that this contract change is consistent with their past policies is an out and out falsehood, this is an about face. There is no way to argue that it isn't.

$75 is more than $59.99. They aren't getting it. I'm not paying that, I'm not paying $.001 and I'm certainly not paying $.03. Sprint, ding my credit. I effing dare you.

Screw this. I'm writing my congressman.

btw, Mistress, thank you for filling us in.

My sentiments EXACTLY. It's enough of a kick in the groin they changed the service. I WILL NOT accept a price change on top of this.

It is not only Sprint but all data card providers who have had that philosophy.

I'd say you belong to a smaller group of users who are required to travel 3-4 weeks at a time that have no other means of internet connection and have to solely rely upon the connection card 8x5x5 if not 24x7.

no problem

I realize that it's not just Sprint with this cap but it does feel pretty bad to have the rules changed in the middle of the game. My suggestion and Intention is to keep a close eye on the usage for the next cycle or two and see what happens. Meanwhile try not to get too upset.
I downloaded a bandwith monitor. Now I have to figure out how to use it

My thing is, if Sprint wants to 'deal with the abusers' then fine. do it by suspension or whatever but to go from Unlimited to Limited makes the good suffer for the bad *sigh*

I have a bandwidth monitor too. I don't know why I keep checking it. 72 megs in 2 days...not bad. Why am I worrying about it now? We still have over a month. I should have my bittorrent client up, downloading every movie I can think of.

Mine pam still says unlimited. I have the 15 dollar pam addon for my bis service. Though I'm thinking bout going back to my mogul and use wmwifirouter and say screw sprint. I have sero going back to 30 bucks instead of 75 for this bb curve. I mean 30 buck to teather rev a or 75 for rev 0. No brainer I think.

MISTRESS,

Thanks for the info about your data speeds. Sorry for the delay in replying. Besides having cable internet service in which I use a lot of bandwidth data usage where some months I'll hit in the 100 GB - 200 GB range in downloading media and also watching streaming videos and TV shows and using business video conferencing for work collaboration, I use the 597E data card when I'm out in the field traveling for business and meeting clients. I've configured my handset for PAM/internet connection sharing just as internet backup option, but never really have the need to use it as such.

I'd be lucky if I hit 3 GB/month with my data card. As for my handset, I'm not sure, but I think I do a fair amount of data usage with my Mogul since I sometimes view a lot of YouTube videos with it when I'm out and about.

Average bandwidth speed:
Data card - downloads between 500 kbps - 900 kbps, but average about 750 kbps. My uploads are between 175 kbps - 450 kbps, but usually average about 350 kbps.

Mogul handset as a PAM/ICS - downloads between 350 kbps- 750 kbps, but average about 500 kbps. My uploads are between 175 kbps - 275 kbps, but usually average about 200 kbps.

I pay $150/month total for the bundled phone and data card service.
