Renew Contract to get Corporate Discount?

This seems to be the new thing..

Can someone confirm?

I called sprint to get my corporate discount changed.. I changed employers and now I can get 23% in lieu of the 15% I recevied before..

The rep submitted a form and mentioned that I'd receive an email with the confirmation.. I asked if it would be to my work email and the rep said no its just to confirm on regular email on file. She did mention that its a change in the policy and that would require a 2 year agreement, but since I've been with sprint long (meaning already completed 2 years long time ago) it wouldnt apply to me..

But in the confirmation email.. It looks like they need me to sign for a NEW TWO YEAR agreement? What the...??

If so, then I dont think I am going to do that.. and I hope my 15% doesnt get taken out in the process..

Here is the email:

Quote:

I thought someone was smoking crack when this was mentioned a little while back but I confirmed this recently. Unfortunately, yes, contract renewal is required to get or change your corporate discount now. I do not like this policy, not one bit.

That is insane. Sprint has marketed to others that the only time a customer is required to renew an agreement is upon the purchase of a subsidized handset. Changing the policy will hurt Sprint, as customers will again feel that any change will require a new contract.

I wonder though, can a retention rep add the corp discount and then revert the contract to its original end dates? A corp discount is not the same as having an incentive such as a service credit applied specifically for the renewal of the agreement, and requiring the renewal on all lines is just insane.

I hope Sprint will quickly abandon this poorly thought process of punishing a customer for changing jobs, etc. The funny thing is, a customer could be honest and contact Sprint to inform them of a job change, find out their discount is lower and it requires a 2 year renewal to "do the right thing" and inform Sprint of their new employment.

Morons!

This must be a VERY new policy as no more than 35 days ago I switched employer code and did not see this message. On a multi line account do they want to lock ALL lines in for two years? If so this is disastrous.

It would not matter much to me as most of my lines are now all two years out except the primary which is on Premier and still shows up for renewal less than a year away.

At Nordstrom, one day the sprint reps just set up a table in the employees lounge to offer the discount and sign-up new Sprint customers with the discount. They just added the discount but I didn't have to sign up for anything new, no renewals or anything.

There is also the benefiet to the customer of having all lines on an account with the same expiration date.
For me this is a big DISADVANTAGE. I try to space each of four lines to expire 6 months apart, that way I can upgrade to a new phone every six months and push the phone to one of the kids. I would HATE to have to upgrade all lines at the same time, what a waste.

It is asinine. It used to be the policy long time ago but I thought they learned from their mistakes, but noooooooo. I think that at the time of activation and initial contract, people need to be offered to be placed on the NVP discount if they qualify for it.

I see this as yet another moronic move, one of a number Sprint has implemented recently.

It took effect on 3/21. It's not to punish anyone. Sprint is already the lowest priced carrier. They are willing to add an NVP discount to an existing line and give up to a 27% discount. All they ask in return is a commitment to stay for 2 years. If you don't want to renew wait till you upgrade and do it then. If you don't want to sign a new contract keep paying what you are (which is STILL the best value in wireless) The choice is still the customers

There is also the benefiet to the customer of having all lines on an account with the same expiration date.

I gotta agree that their is no "real benefit" of having all lines under contract. I renewed my agreement to get the $20/24 and to get a new device on one line, but the thought that I would have to pay up to $200 per line for the availability of a discount is just wrong.

I wonder if Sprint will soon revert back to the old ways or making any plan change, no matter how small, require a new 2 year agreement? If you have to use a renewed contract as a way of keeping a long term customer just because they wanted their work place discount, they must be in a bit of a desperation mode for getting people back under an agreement.

I guess I got my discount "bumped up" at the right time. I certainly would not have accepted these terms, especially on lines that have no monthly charge, such as the 2nd line of an "everything data" family plan.

Proudly out of contract on 2 lines since 2008!

I would fight this policy. Ask where in Sprint's Terms and Conditions it says adding a corporate discount will renew your contract. Also Sprint recently responded to the FCC's probe into carrier ETFs and Sprint's response said ETFs are to recover the equipment subsidy a customer receives when purchasing a new device. I think you can fight this, it might take a little work but i think its possible.

I don't think you have a valid position since you are asking for an optional discount to be applied. It is not a core service so I suspect it is not covered as a change to your terms and conditions. Sprint is not pushing this new term onto you. Even if you have a corp discount and change employees you are not required to report it and can keep the current discount.

The FCC might be interested in this new policy, as they had just asked the carriers what circumstances a contract would be renewed on and how ETF's are charged.

When the carrier indicates that the ETF is a tool to ensure the discounted device's "true cost" is recovered by the carrier, a renewed contract and resulting possible ETF has no valid reason.

Sure, Sprint is giving you a discount, but it is a discount that was negotiated between you and your employer based on a pool of people all using Sprint services. It is not a loyalty discount or credit that you would negotiate on your own, nor one that Sprint may invite you to accept in exchange for a contract renewal.

It is a bit gray, I will grant that. I guess my view is even though an employer has negotiated a discount for it's employees who subscribe to Sprint, it is optional and there is nothing implied that if you work for company x you automatically receive this discount.

Nearly all these account are individual liability accounts so the agreement is between you as an individual and Sprint. In the case you receive your phone service under the company's contract and it is assuming the liability then anything that is in the Sprint and company contract would fall under terms and conditions but those would be different than the consumer ones. Just my 2 cents.

This just started as of last sunday. You need to renew your contract now in order to add a NVP discount.

This is NOW a Sprint company wide policy.

It is a very non-customer friendly policy.
