Yeah I've heard that too...deciding if I'm going to listen or ignore it? Problem is a lot of the newer kernels seem to have SBC. :(

[ROM] 01/10/11 | SPRINT LOVERS | 2.2 | 3.70.651.1 | Radio/Wimax/PRI All-In-One

Here is the sprint lovers rom link over at ppcgeeks. We should give the cook a hands up and all. I have tried it and so far so good.

Thank you all you custom rom makers!

i think as long as you are s-off you should be okay. go ahead and try it and report back if your phone is bricked

btw, can this be merged w/ the 'custom roms thread'?

I'm still using Savage CFS 1.6, I think it has SBC. He posted a non-SBC version. But, I'm not sure I will switch. If I eff up my battery, oh well. Reason for me to use my upgrade I guess.

Truthfully, there's claims it does damage, and claims it doesn't. Not sure what to believe, not going to stress it right now.

I already switched to netarchys kernal (which he's removed SBC kernals from xda) and have already noticed the difference. o

ff the charger for less than a hr and have already lost 3%. SBC i'd still be at 100%.

I may switch to his sbc kernals: http://www.qap.la/~netarchy/

Yeah, there's a difference. The Savage kernel dev said he has monitored the charging using SBC kernels and that when it reaches 100, the power drops significantly.

I will probably drop SBC only if I continue to see more and more reports of issues.

dzuchowski 01-13-2011 07:45 AM

I installed the rom and so far so good. Battery seems good more internal storage. Nova demo not oi nstalled, I installed ful nova and still force close. Also streaming works but dont know why as its the same proxy I think

emtownsend 01-13-2011 09:46 AM

I'm using the Calkulin EVO 2 ROM v1.7.7 (basis for RIP.ROM)
The Kernel version shows 2.6.32.17-ck2-CFS

Will the SBC kernel help battery life?
I took my phone off the charger about 15 minutes ago and I am down 5% already and I haven't made any calls and got 1 text.
I typically use the EVO.ZONE.RIP ROM and am on the 1.11.10 version (newest as of last night). I have been using this ROM since I rooted a few months back and love it, but the battery life seems short (I even grabbed some extended batteries).
EDIT: Can I actually simply install a new kernel over another or will I hose everything? Thanks!

EDIT again... OK, nix the SBC for now. Just looked at the links for the trickle issues... Any other battery friendly ROMs in the wild?

tool2269 01-13-2011 09:51 AM

you can install a kernal (its similar to flashing a rom, backup, wipe cache/dalvik, flash from zip)

sbc is up in the air right now as to how safe it is. yes it improves battery life basically by keeping your phone charged that extra 10% that seems to go away after the first few seconds your phone is off the charger.

Duffman 01-13-2011 10:00 AM

I have tried a bunch of kernels and keep coming back to the HTC kernel made for the Evo. I never see any great improvement and there is always some unwanted side effect.

If it's an AOSP kernel, it should work. Swype I haven't been able to use because Swype I believe wants you to get it through a Sprint Sense ROM? I don't know...gave up on Swype awhile ago because they wouldn't let me load it via installer.

Nope, even if it does degrade the stock battery it will be so minimal that I probably wouldn't even notice before I get a new phone in a few years.

Side note I'm back to Myn's While I freaking loved the look and feel of MIUI the ASOP roms all have the voicemail bug currently (you get a text message each time you get a voicemail)

MIUI specifically was laggy in certain areas. I would find myself having to press the power button 3 or 4 times before the phone would recognize I was trying to wake it up.

Overall a fantastic looking rom with some great features (like the scrollable notification pulldown with built in settings control)

just not for me at this time.

I think all AOSP ROMs have that text bug which can be blocked so you never receive them using Handcent, Chomp, or an app called Super Private Conversation (?) not sure on that last app name being entirely correct but should be close.

tbakergobuck 01-14-2011 07:57 AM

I never tried it but google voice is also another way you can stop the voicemail text bug.

Noodle 01-14-2011 08:12 AM

Yeah while I like 90% of the look and functionality of ASOP roms I just don't think they are for me right now. the 10% of annoyances I have just kill me. I know I could use Handcent or something like that but I don't want to have to.

Little things like that with the day to day functionality for me.

Oh and while I have a GV number and what not I have maybe used it twice. I just don't find I have much of a need for it.

Oh well I will still keep tabs on MIUI and CM and more than likely try them out again every few months.

jpkboca 01-14-2011 12:49 PM

I'm using Myns and love it. I need to try a new kernel, or downgrade the PRI like some suggested though, because the battery life is not good.

I've received sent 10 texts today, otherwise it's been idle pretty much all day, since 9am [it's at 53% now).

Cell Standyby 43%
Phone idle 38%
Android System 13%
Display 6 %

Not happy with HTC #15 if thats what causing it, but havn't had time to downgrade PRI or try a new kernel.

KB112 01-14-2011 09:17 PM

Try Kings #11 he lists on page 1 of his thread or netarchy-toastmod-4.2.1-cfs-bfq-havs-more-smartass. I am pleasantly surprised so far with HTC #15.

What displays can vary on what you use, and can be dropped off once you exit / force close / OS drops it.

But I just noticed, where the hell is display? Lol

Is the kernel that effective on it?

Not necessarily, 2% is of X of X of a secret formula.

I.e. Run a new app for 5 min, go to it in battery info, select it, and inside I bet $100 it doesn't say CPU usage is 5min, same can be tested on display, etc.

In other words, all those percentages pertain to a secret formula, which I don't know if anyone has been able to figure it out lol.

P.s. I don't mean to make the percentage numbers are a total null, we just need the formula :hee:

That's cool. I've just never seen people to have that good of battery life unless the phone is just sitting there. Typically if it says Wifi, Cell Standby, and Idle...along with a low Android OS...seemed to equal little use.

I do like that MIUI does a much better job of breaking down these percentages.

Mime has been off the charger for 1 day and 14 hour and i am at 60%. Even though I've made a few calls and text plus used the web and the sprint app, all that shows is system standbye and idle.

I'm sorry but your battery usage is messed up some how. Showing idle and standby both being at 50% to me says the phone was not used?

I'm sure you used your phone some during that day, but something else should have registered during that time. :icon_smil

I also think my definition no usage or extremely little usage = light to moderate usage for others?

I'm on my phone a lot always messing with something. I usually get 15 hours to a day of usage. I just don't understand how people can claim to get such usage and actually use their phone?

Just my thoughts and opinions...maybe I'm jealous.

I would love to actually see how you use your phone compared to mine...gotta be a lot less.

th3taman 01-16-2011 02:59 PM

Only temp root no nand unlock available yet.

so far i like it, the screen is smaller but it displays just as much its solid the slider is stiff in a good day and its snappy as heck. (1580+ average quadrant but that doesnt mean much)

Let us know how it works. I'm wanting a fairly stable CM7...but willing to wait. I think I may be done with MIUI soon...I like it but time for something new or updated in this case.

Although having GPS work correctly on MIUI is nice.

thekarens 01-16-2011 10:47 PM

I tend to flash roms weekly, but always go back to CM as my daily. I had been running Myn's. Anyway, problems: on the unlock screen you're supposed to be able to slide to go straight to text messaging, that doesn't work for me. The other thing is it zapped my battery almost immediately. I'm using the kernel that comes with the rom. I'll see if that was an initial thing or continuous. Normally I get great battery life with CM.

Aesthetically the thing that they changed that I don't like is the battery icon. You used to be able to change the settings so the percentage would show, no more, at least as far as I can tell. Everything else I've tried so far has worked. Haven't tried out BT as my dog ate my BlueAnt and of course I haven't driven anywhere so I haven't tried navigation.

Beer Abuser 01-16-2011 11:24 PM

I love the Cyanogen Roms but, I seem to get horrible signal with them. Which forced me back to a Sense based Rom. However, the Mikfroyo is pretty nice, just miss the battery life of AOSP Roms.

I was not happy when I discovered she had taken the BT from the end table and had it for dinner. :)

Today I discovered navigation is not working :( Thankfully I'm not going to need that any time soon. WiFi works fine and battery seems fine today.

I'm on my cell or I could give you the exact link, but it can be found at Cyanogenmod.com.

What one did you flash? I need to read up on this crap because I'm not even sure what nightlys means. Should I just wait til the stable one comes out

I did just flash MIUI 1.14 and I like it. Had one reboot in a few hrs but might have been a fluke thing. I've tried earlier builds and had a ton of restarts.

Here's a link to both the nightly and the gapps in the very first post: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/1...-of-nightlies/

In the same way Miui has weekly updates CM has nightly updates. I'd easily say this build is equal to the latest Miui as far as stability goes. That's just my opinion though.

MikeV 01-17-2011 04:39 PM

with the nightlies, you guys are reflashing every day?

Some do, but I generally only flash every few days.

Brett can you get visual voice mail to work with CM7? If so how and if not what are you using? So GPS doesn't work?

Aaargh! I was hoping this had been fixed. Can't go back to CM until they get this taken care of. Thanks for the info.

GPS works fine, the icon only displays when its in use. My evo is inactive, hence the hoopla over the 3 days of battery life its essentially a wifi enabled tablet :-) I use it around the house for browsing forums my email and lots of youtube when the friends want a video played since its always connected to my wifi. unfortunately one of the downfalls to the shift is its wifi reception is horrendous I hope they fix it like they did the evo.

sorry :-(

As of now I get a text message that tells me I have a voice sms message call to listen which is annoying.

try replying stop or end to the message it should stop it until you have VVM installed again

I fixed it by setting wifi not to sleep when the phone is off havent seen a drastic change in battery life due to it

MIUI is being a ***** with the latest update! :irked: I'm about to drop her like a bad habit and go back to CM. I like MIUI but the stupid random reboots is getting to be annoying. 1.1.7 was better but not perfect with the reboots...1.1.14 has gotten much worse. :(

Glad to see that it was just a setting issue. Yeah, I have the same problem with MIUI till I remember to flip that switch again after flashing.

Word, might have to give the new CM7 a try when I get home. I just can't stick with a Sense Rom, been spoiled by AOSP's and their awesome battery life and speed.

MattWeed9 01-18-2011 10:19 AM

Ugh, so I flashed CM7 003 on my lunch break and kind of wish I didn't. Sitting in the same exact spot as I was with Mikfroyo and I had full bars, now I have 1. Went to subway for lunch and GPS didn't work. It locked while parked but, lost it the moment I started to drive.

Also, this auto install apps deal with this rom, anyway to remove apps from the list? There is a ton of old apps it installs then I have to turn around and update them.

not sure I understand. I get a 9016 android text when I get a voice mail. I have visual voice mail installed and seems to be be working but it when I hit update it says general failure. Here's a picture of the stuck voice mail icon which happens with Roms that don't have VVM.

So these are the best results out of three runs each, mobile data and wifi. The first run is from CM7, the second is from MikFroyo 4.4. I was a little surprised at the results. The whole time I never moved my phone from the table, it sat in the same exact spot for all test.

While Cyanogen tends to show less bars then Sense based Roms, it actually achieved better download speeds while using mobile data. However, that little edge in mobile data speeds isn't much when comparing the WiFi test. MikFroyo blew away Cyanogen hands down.

So really other then battery life, Cyanogen just doesn't seem to really make sense to use. At least not for me. The lack of working GPS and other bugs that I had in both CM6.1.2 and in CM7 003 just don't really justify better battery life. Even more so now that my stand alone GPS broke Sunday.

when you get that text from 9016 reply to it with stop or end (try 1, or the other or both)

tbakergobuck 01-18-2011 06:30 PM

Not sure what's it's called but I noticed in a few roms when you push the power button the screen goes out like a tv. Can I install that on any Rom and does anyone know where I can find it?

They have those on and off animations on on the Cyanogen Rom. Not sure if you can flash them to any Rom though.

I believe it is new with Gingerbread, so you would need to have a Gingerbread based ROM. Not many of those yet. CM7 is one though. I do think it is a pretty cool effect.

Na, they had them on CM6.1.2. Tons of people where complaining last week about them not working on GB yet. Someone made a flashable fix for the lithid CM7 releases on XDA.

Ah, well they probably ported it from GB somehow...don't remember seeing it till recently. But I could always wrong, wouldn't be the first time.
